• Saprotrophic– Decomposers– Extra cellular digestion

• Mycelium: fungal body– Composed of many hyphae (individual chains of

cells)

Black Bread Mold (Zygomycota)• Asexual and sexual reproduction

Look at zygospores (diploid reproductive structures) with prepared slides under microscope

Sac fungi (Ascomycota)• Many cause disease– Example: yeast infection

• Observe yeast demo– Single celled– Asexual reproduction through budding

• Aspergillus slide• Penicillium slide• Look for conidiospores: asexual spores– Form on stalks called conidiophores– Individual spores are conidia

Club fungi (Basidomycota)• Cap: basidocarp– Forms basidospores at the end

of basidia (stalks)• Typically reproduces sexually
