“Juan Escultor de Villanueva” High School is located in la Carrera (Pola de Siero), next to the Nora river and to the road N-634, at twenty kilometres from Oviedo , capital of Asturias.

The name of the centre appeared in April of 1995, but the high school was built in 1982.

The name is a tribute to a Spanish Baroque sculptor that was born in Pola de Siero. He is important because he was one of the founders of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes (The Royal Academy of Fine Arts) in Madrid in 1751 and one of the first principals. Despite having so many sculptures, a lot of them have disappeared during the Spanish Civil War.

In the school year from 2002-2003 the students of 1st

and 2nd E.S.O. started going to the high school. Two years later the bilingual section started.
