The 7 Habits of Effective and Defective Teens

By Ella Sherman

Defective Habit #1- React

In photos above, a group of girls are gossiping and the victim knows what they said. The victim feels bad for herself and doesn’t do anything about the problem in the second picture.

Effective Habit #2- Begin With the End in Mind

Beginning with the end in mind for this picture means to know your biggest and greatest goal first before you move on to know the mini goals to reach that big goal.

Defective Habit #2- Begin With No End in Mind

This is where you go when you don’t set up a goal or plan before you do something. You go absolutely nowhere!

Effective Habit #3- Put First Things First

This example to-do list shows needs like chores are more important than just sitting around and doing what you want.

Defective Habit #3-Put First Things Last

This photo shows that doing what you want is way more important than doing what you need to do like taking out the trash because your supposed to do that last.

Effective Habit #4- Think Win-Win

This picture shows that everybody came in first place so, everybody won. The picture also shows that it doesn’t matter if you lose or not, it just matters that you played for fun and work together!

Defective Habit #4- Think Win-Lose

In the picture above, one guy is winning more than anyone because he wants to succeed at everything. This includes the man being better than all the rest and not letting everybody win, just him.

Effective Habit #5- Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

The first picture to the left shows that I am listening to someone on the phone with respect. In the second picture to the right shows you that after the person I was talking to makes their point, I was then able to speak after because I knew their opinion when I was listening to them.

Defective Habit #5- Seek First to Talk Then Pretend to Listen

The first picture shows how I am talking to Someone on the phone. The second picture shows how I am totally tuning out to what the person on the other line is saying.

Effective Habit #6- Synergize

In this photo, Group of girls on a team are playing a game of softball. They are working together to win the game they are playing.

Defective Habit #6- Don’t Cooperate

The child in the picture works alone. He handles the money and probably made the lemonade himself. The child also is the one who handles the customers and started the idea of creating the lemonade stand himself. There is know teamwork managing the lemonade stand.

Effective Habit #7- Sharpen The Saw

In this photograph I took, I am seen “carrying” a rainbow of the healthy foods I like. This includes caring for my body because I eat a lot of different foods but I like eating healthy foods too!

Defective Habit #7- Wear Yourself Out

This is another photo I took which is me “carrying” my all time favorite junk food, ice cream. If I eat ice cream 3 times a day, every day then I would definitely not be taking care of my body.
