MAIN THEMESDesirable skills necessary for life, love and work in the

21 century.

“Education kills creativity” – Sir Ken Robinson

GERM - Global Education Reform System.

The problems of standardised testing

Contradictions and tensions

• Creativity vs standardised testing• Big contradiction• How to change towards more creativity?• You – the teacher can drive change, innovate etc.• Do a bit at a time

Quotes on Creativity• “Curriculum stifles creativity.”• “Letting learning happen, not making it happen.”• “Code tomorrow revolutionize tomorrow. ”

- ‘Appification’.• “Teachers need to be entrepreneurial, be creative. ”• “Innovation must be heart of learning framework ”• “Empower kids to change the world” -

Forecasts – the future of work and education

• Asia is 40% of the web! Biggest growth in internet connections.• World of work is changing, middle class jobs are disappearing, middle

class is shrinking. • Your students are learning with you . Learning has changed. Access to

information is unprecedented , collaboration is the key.• Augmented technology is coming. Anything you can routinize, can be

done by technology. • If there is no immediate feedback what is the point.

Quotes• “Teachers are the key learner in the classroom. ”• “Leadership is crucial.”• “Emphasis on yield and not sustainability.”• “Choose a few things and do them well. ”• “Show me don't tell me.”• “Why must the arrive all at the same time? ”• “Misguided notion of trying to protect student on the Web at school. Once

they leave school they have unfiltered access to the internet.”• “How will students react when device are not responsive?”• “The more they share the more they learn.”

• 3 types of students in your classroom• 1. Strugglers – don’t get it.• 2. Advanced – gifted – not challenged.• 3. Compliant – “play school” – “give me

the answer”, “what do I need to know for the test?”- are they challenged?• -are they all learning?

Active learning not passive learning.

Take aways for me

• Incorporate 4Cs into my teaching, comment in my reports.• Continue entrepreneurial and creative pathways for myself an students’ learning experiences.• Technology is a tool to enhance learning, particularly the 4 Cs.• Our students are very passive learners – need to change that to individualise learning and give

responsibility to them.• Need can do attitude.• BYOD is coming to a school near you.• Who owns the learning? Important question.• Personalise learning with data and giving responsibility in own learning. • Learn , challenge, engage, learn cycle.• Big questions, create own path of learning.• Productive discomfort.
