Purpose

•Develop a proposal to implement e-learning in basic education schools in Oman

E-school and its Components• E-school is a school that uses a website for

serving the educational sector, where all school data and educational programs are available. This website is available over the internet and can be accessed by a modem.

Components of E-School• Intranet and Internet• Electronic Classrooms• Electronic Library• Administrative Programs

Implementing EL in Basic Education• E-learning depends on the applications of

computer and internet to provide interactive-electronic environment, As following:▫Using computer in learning and instruction.▫Using computer in school administration.▫Using internet in learning and instruction.

•Project Scope: integrating technology and internet in school

system One virtual classroom for each subject and an

educational website for each teacher A website for each school Using school management system

Suggested Proposal• Project Objectives:

Introducing effective teaching methods Maintaining communication channels between

school and community Offering variety of learning resources Training students on interactive technologies Encouraging the participation in international

cooperative projects

•Resources: Project funding from the ministry, special

sector and citizens. Required infrastructure ( computer

software/hardware, school LAN, internet, LCD projectors…).

Provide needed software such as: Macromedia Author ware, presentation programs, School management and school schedule systems.

Continuous technical support and maintenance.

Difficulties

1. Ambiguity of e-learning definition and its strategies to education administrators

2. The need for capital cost to build the needed infrastructure

3. Teachers not aware of the importance of e-learning and have no experience on

4. Lack of arabic educational software and websites.

Recommendations• Prepare the needed infrastructure• Train teachers on using e-learning strategies in

their teaching • Integration between teaching subjects and

websites.• Train teachers on designing their own websites.• Design experimental e-learning course and

evaluate its effectiveness.• Perceiving e-learning as a mean to improve

education.
