•INTRODUCTION OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

William Shakespeare (26 April 1564- 23 April 1616).

Was an English poet, playwright and actor.

Greatest writer writer in the English language. He is often called ‘England’s national poet.’

‘HAMLET’ is one of his greatest revenge tragedy.

TALK ABOUT ‘HAMLET’S’ MADNESSThe problem of madness is

perhaps the most madding problem in “Hamlet.”

We get vivid picture of Hamlet as he was in the word of Ophelia;

“The courtier’s, soldier’s, scholar’s, eye, tongue, swords,

The expectancy and rose of the fair state,

The glass of fashion, and the mould of form,

the observed of all observed.”

•The initial point at which madness is evident is when Hamlet is left to seek revenge upon the murderer of his father. Hamlet was not crazy, but used the madness as a depiction to achieve what he wanted. As Poloniussays that, “Though this be madness, yet there is method in it.” [Hamlet, act 2, Scene2]

We also see Hamlets madness in bedchamber scene with his mother.

TALK ABOUT ‘HAIDER’S’ MADNESS IN MOVIE HAIDER

“Haider” is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.

This movie is very similar with the tragedy of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

“Hamlet’s” major theme is also madness and “Haider's” major theme is also about madness.

Haider is deals with the terrorism in the troubled state .

There is no sophisticated view on the self-reflexive madness narrative as in Shakespeare's Hamlet like :

“ I essentially am not in madness, but mad in craft.” POLITICS OF MADNESS : Madness is political strategy, or madness as

feigned behavior to gain the trust of one’s family seems to be the only options given to the viewer.
