Can you imagine a day when you are without your phone?.. Could you survive?

There actually was a time when this was the case but fast evolution of cell-phones have led us to where we are today.

MicroTAC 9800x

First manufactured in 1989

Introduced a new innovative flip design

Was at first an analog phone then GSM-compatible

This phone set a standard design that has been followed

Motorola International 3200

Introduced in 1992

The first digital hand sized mobile phone to hit the market in 1992

Could not show much information because of small dot matrix LCD

Contained in total 21 buttons on the key pad

Shaped in “brick style”

Motorola starTAC

It was released in 1996

The first ever clamshell flip mobile phone

One of the first cell phones to be popular, 60 million StarTac’s were sold

The starting price for a starTAC mobile was $1,000

First cell-phone that was light weight and easily portable

Nokia 9110i

Introduced in 1998

This phone could do much more than ones before: play games, alarm clock, calculator, calendar, and to-do list

Still there is no color on the screens and no option for vibrate mode

Symbian OS is the operating system used for a majority of mobile devices

Very sophisticated interface with a touch screen

Became one of the more popular phones in the country

Introduced in 2004

Sold more than 110 million units all across the world

Contained a well developed camera, 10 MB of memory, and internet connection

The lightest cell-phone made to date

Sidekick LX

Introduced in 2009

The phone has the sharpest screen and best attributes that include: support for personal email, SMS, MMS, and instant messaging techniques

The camera is a 3.2 megapixel camera and video capabilities which allow users to upload pictures from their phones to the internet

It is truly amazing to see the advancements that have taken place since 1990.

GameBoy

Released in 1989

It was the first handheld gaming console

8-bit CPU and highest selling game was the hit “Tetris”

In 2002 a color version of GameBoy was made

It played both of games and new ones (32,000 color LCD screen)

Super Nintendo Entertainment System

Released in 1991

Started off slow but eventually became the top selling 16 bit system in the US (beating Sega)

Famous games: Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Bros., and Metroid.

Playstation

Released in 1995

First 32-bit video game and with the use of CD-ROM technology the price of games dropped significantly.

Popular games included: Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal, NBA Live, and Area 51

Nintendo 64

Released in 1996 and last system created to use cartridges

The cartridges store games much better than the CD-ROM’s on Playstation

Big Games: Super Mario 64, Mario Cart, Ken Griffey Jr. Slugfest, and Goldeneye

PlayStation 2

Released in 2000

First 128-bit system and could double as a DVD player

Begins the rise in online gaming play

Big Games: NBA Live, Grand Theft Auto, and Madden.

XBOX

Released in 2001

Microsoft’s first video game system to penetrate the market

Not popular a first until the release of Halo, one of the most popular titles in video gaming history

Nintendo GameCube

Released in 2001

Nintendo’s first gaming system that does no use cartridges. The discs used were much smaller than that of DVDs.
