CHROMATIN AND CHROMOSOMES

Chromatin is the complex of DNA and proteins found in the eukaryotic nucleus

Chromosome is packaged and organized into chromatin.

• The structure of chromatin depends on the stage of the cell cycle

Structure of Chromosomes• DNA is wrapped around histone proteins forming nucleosomes.

Histones are protiens that are going to help package the

DNA more eficciently

Chromosome Anatomy

Genome• the genome is the genetic material of an organism, in others words is

an organism’s complete set of DNA, including all of its genes.

The basic number of chromosomes in the somatic cells of an individual or a species is called the somatic number and is

designated 2n. In humans 2n = 46.
