Great Britain is famous for its ancient castles.

There is a great number of them in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Dover Castle

It is an enormous fortress situated between England and France on the shore of Strait of Dover.

There are lots of legends about this castle as it was the Royal families’ residence.

Caernarfon Castle

It was built in 1283 when English King Edward I ordered to start building of a stone castle on the place of an ancient fortification.

The castle managed to withstand the longest sieges in 1294-95, 1403, 1404.

Edinburgh Castle

It is an ancient fortress in the centre of Edinburgh.

The castle stands on the Castle Rock which was called “the key to Scotland”.

There is the famous St. Margaret’s Chapel on the territory of the castle, built by her son, King David, in XII century.

Harlech Castle

It is one of the most famous castles in Wales.

In 1283 King Edward ordered to start building of the castle. It had been built during 7 years.

In 1986 the castle was included into UNESCO World Heritage List.
