“Building Tomorrow’s Workforce Today”

Gold Key Processing hosts career readiness event MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio, December 10, 2015. In fulfillment of our objective to continue to grow our organization by growing our people, which also includes strengthening tomorrow’s workforce today, on October 22, 2015 Gold Key Processing hosted the 8th grade classes from Middlefield Cardinal and Hershey Montessori Farm Jr/Sr High Schools for tours to learn about HEXPOL Compounding and careers in the rubber industry. The students arrived at the Gold Key campus with an energetic welcome from the entire staff. The event was kicked off by Gold Key’s HR team consisting of Lori Smith and Megan Clarke, who are essential in coordinating our support of these educational programs. A safety review was completed first and each student was provided their own personal PPE, including safety glasses, ear plugs and shoe covers, to make sure they were safe during the visit to our campus.

The students were then provided an overview of HEXPOL Compounding by Managing Director, Jerry Saxion, that included the campus capabilities, global locations, markets serviced, HEXPOL culture, people development and a leadership lesson on ATTITUDE. Students were very interactive with great questions and were excited to learn more about our process and people.

The students next were split into smaller groups and taken on tours of the Gold Key campus, where production associates, development chemist, lab technicians, process chemists and office staff each had a station were they explained the many steps in the process of manufacturing advanced, high-quality rubber compounds. Students observed how a product was conceived from development, the procurement of raw materials, the manufacturing process, testing to the customer’s requirements and also were shown examples of customer parts. Along with explaining each step of the process, at each station the students got to know the background of our associates and the career paths they took to reach their current position. Each associate explained their role, highlighted the different jobs they perform and detailed the importance of working as a team because as we know, Teamwork is what makes the Dream Work! The Gold Key mentors that presented to the students included Jason Yauger, Mervin Detweiler, Rich Gierlach, Brad Bond and Kevin Dominic. The entire Gold Key team including our current cooperative educations students from Youngstown State University also supported this event in preparation and assisting the students throughout the day.

Gold Key Processing, as part of its mission, is dedicated to helping “Build Tomorrow’s Workforce Today” through intentional active participation to pay it forward through programs like the high school Career Readiness Days for Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, Cooperative Education experiences with local Universities, Internships with local High schools, educational days with local Amish schools, Career fairs and mentoring programs with ISTEM students from the Auburn Career Center. By including hosting the Career Awareness Day for 8th graders, we are assisting students to plan their future because at this level they are required as part of their curriculum to make determinations about their general career path and course of study in high school.
