LO: To be able to identifya British film

(What makes a film ‘British’?)

The British Council defines a British film as one which has a minimum of three of the following six criteria:

• 1. A British producer• 2. A British production team• 3. A British director e.g. Brit films• 4. A predominantly British cast

e.g. Four Wed• 5. A subject matter that informs the British

experience e.g. East is East• 6. A British identity as defined by the bfi in

the release review in Sight & Sound.

Producer: (Has the greatest involvement)

1. A representative of the film Studio (CEO)

2. A production Company

3. An individual(s)

= They all do the same job – they MAKE the film and everything that involves – hiring crew, casting directors, deciding on locations, actors, overseeing script changes, organising editors, working closely with the director, having final say on many decisions

Producers are the management of the film

Directors are the creators of the film
