Board Game Questions Based on AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner
STANDARD 1: Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge. • Can learning and/or playing the game develop students’
knowledge in a curricular subject area? (1.1.1) • Can learning and/or playing the game help students make real-
world connections that apply to other areas of their lives? (1.1.1) • Can students use prior and background knowledge as a context
for new learning as they play the game? (1.1.2) • Does the game provided a variety of paths to victory by enabling
players to adapt strategies to unique situations in order to win? (1.2.5)
STANDARD 2: Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create new knowledge. • Does the game require players to think critically about information
in order to construct new understandings, draw conclusions, and/or create new knowledge? (2.1.1)
• Does the game promote using various strategies to draw
conclusions? (2.1.3) • Can students apply strategic knowledge from the game to future
