GRAMMATICAL INSTRUCTION

Amonette, Maria MohrUniversity of Washington, 2001

Research analysis

• This research has a qualitative approach. This study used qualitative methods to study the relationship between form-focused instruction and the use of grammatical structures in ESL students' writing.

• The purpose of this research was observe students' perceptions of the role of grammar in their English learning experience and, particularly, in their writing.

• The first research goal of this study was to provide a descriptive account of the grammar for class.

• They used regular classroom observation, interviews, an elicitation task questionnaires, students' written work, and discourse analysis.

Author’s decision

• In my opinion the author chose describes the study because it was more required than another kind of study. The author mentions that many quantitative studies about this topic had been done but not a qualitative one which describes the reaction of students when grammar instructions are given and how they applied to the writings. So, with that the importance of this research is even more important.
