• Place the heel of one hand in the centre of the chest

• Place other hand on top • Interlock fingers• Compress the chest

– Rate 100 min-1

– Depth 4-5 cm– Equal compression :

relaxation

• When possible change CPR operator every 2 min

Pinch the nose Take a normal breath Place lips over mouth Blow until the chest

rises Take about 1 second Allow chest to fall Repeat

RESCUE BREATHS

CONTINUE CPR

AND ONLY STOP :

IF THE VICTIM STARTS: Coughing, opening their eyes, speaking ,moving purposefully or breathing normally

PROFESSIONAL HELP ARRIVES YOU BECOME EXHAUSTED

If possible, change rescuer/resuscitator each 2 minutes or so to prevent tiredness

Avoid any delay during changeoverDon’t interrupt chest compressions

MODIFICATIONS TO ADULT BLS FOR CHILDREN

Give 5 initial rescue breaths before starting chest compression

If you are on your own, perform CPR for 1 min before going for help

Compress the chest by at least 1/3 of its depth Use two fingers for an infant under 1 year Use one or two hands for a child over 1 year (as

required to achieve an adequate depth of compression)

THE RECOVERY POSITIONIf the victim starts to breath
