Acid rain

Rain that is more acidic than normal

is called acid rain.

In other words the precipitation

containing acid in amount more than

usual is called acid rain.

Acid rain has pH value less than 5.

Dr. Gene E. Likens discovered acid rain in North America

The English chemist Robert Angus invented the term ‘acid rain’ for the first time. He referred as the 'Father of Acid Rain’.

• Burning coal, Oil and natural gas, in power stations which use in making of electricity, gives off sulphur dioxide gas.

• Burning petrol and oil in vehicle engines gives off nitrogen oxides as gases.

• When these gases mix with water vapour and rainwater in the atmosphere produce weak solutions of sulphuric and nitric acids – which fall as acid rain.

& rivers, which is directly effect the

aquatic ecosystem.

Asthma, along with dry cough, headache, and throat irritation can be caused by the SO2 and Nox from acid rain.

Acid rain is slowly destroying our planet. It is our

responsibility to make sure that we protect the

earth for future generations to enjoy.

We should stop polluting. factories should have use

filters so that less pollution goes in the sky.

We have to educate the children on Environmental

issues.
