death struggle with the demons Gods worry of “inferior mortals aspired to

become god through penance” So always tried to destroy the penance Destruction mostly provided by celestial

nymphs

A man’s realization:

Supreme knowledge not to be found in cities & villages

Path to godhood blocked by social obligations & by the love of family & friends

So went to dwell alone in a remote jungle & starts meditating

Faced many hardships in the jungle. Efforts to win over his mind and flesh Seasons changed; still sat on the same

meditative trance. Eventually achieved a state of unending

happiness.
