GOOD MORNING!Nice to see you all again.

How have you been?

That’s good.Today we’ll talk about manners.

We’ll learn about good and bad manners in different places and situations.

We’ll go over the lesson in your book.

Let’s continue.

Are you ready?

I’ll begin by asking you some questions.

Who teaches children manners?

Yes, parents do.In the past, what did children do when the adults were talking?

They kept quiet.

What do children today do in the same situation?.

Right. They have more freedom to do what they want to do.

People have different manners in different places.

Do you know where Mongolia is?What do people in that country do when they eat?

If you are invited to dinner in Mongolia, you have to ‘burp’ to show that you like the food.

When you burp, you release the gas through your mouth.

Can you do that in Thailand? Is it polite?

Er….burp!

But in many countries, it is very impolite to do that.

Do you know what to do if you eat in Polynesia?

You’ll have to turn your back to other people.

Now let’s talk about some manners in Africa and Arabia. What should you do if you see your friend who may not see you?

Well, you’ll have to sit next to him and wait until he talks to you.

How about visiting a friend in Arabia?

Do you walk past every house?

No, you shouldn’t do that. You must walk behind each tent until you reach your friend’s tent.

Do you know why?.

It’s because if you are invited into a tent, you cannot say ‘No’. If you do, you’ll be very impolite.

Now, let’s talk about manners in our society. What are some good

or bad manners for MSU students?

Just listen to the conversation between an MSU teacher and his student. Are you ready?

You’ve learned about manners in different countries!

Good morning, everyone!

Welcome to MSU!

I think it is very important for you to have good manners.

Okay Thongchai. Here are some manners you should have as an MSU student.

Ajarn Khrab! Would you please tell me some good manners for MSU students?

1. You should not sleep in class. Try to be cheerful and active all the time.

3. You should not use your mobile phone in class.

2. You should wear an MSU uniform to study!

Pay attention to your teacher.

5. Combing your hair or putting on make-up during class is considered impolite.

4. You should not chat with a friend in class, but you can ask your teacher some questions!.

That’s not over yet. There are still some more points.

Is that all, Ajarn? That’s too many for us already!

6. When you are in the elevator or a lift, you should not shout or talk loudly.

8. Do not blow your nose or spit while some people are eating.

7. Do not fart in the lift. It is very impolite to do that.

MSU students should always speak humbly. Speak with the polite particle, khrab or kha, especially with older people.

There’s still one more thing.

Thank you so much, Ajarn. Now I’ve learned a lot about manners!
