MY BACKGROUND…

WHY BETA PROJECTS…

SETTING UP BETA PROJECTS…

Dublin needs to be able to innovate – and to innovate you need to be able to experiment and to then learn from those experiments.

A Dublin City Council trial mechanism for Dublin to systematically discuss issues & opportunities, create solutions, then prototype them 'on the street' for measurement & debate.

BETA PROJECT APPROACH…

ETHOS…

• Transparency

• Co-Creation (conversations not broadcasts)

• Lean Principles

• Failure is OK (if learning)

• Observing ‘Desire Behaviour’

• People are ‘inherently good’.

• Highlighting DCC ‘thinking’ / innovation.

7 ASPECTS OF BETA PROJECTS…

1. Ideas will be tested directly ‘on the street‘.

2. We’re looking for your input, feedback and suggestions!

3. They’re clearly highlighted as ‘trials’.

4. Beta Projects will be short trials.

5. Beta Projects will be flexible to change.

6. Beta Projects are generally trialled for low sums of money.

7. Beta Projects are generally planned quickly.

THE BETA PROJECT PROCESS…

What is a Beta Project macro?

• A Beta Project macro looks at CITYWIDE CONCEPTS.

• They’re about POLICY, PERMISSIONS and PROCEDURES.

• They’re trialled within a designated “Beta Quadrant” in Dublin.

What is a Beta Project micro?

• A Beta Project micro is concerned with the LOCAL SPECIFICS.

• They’re about PLACE, PEOPLE and (local) POLITICS.

• They are trialled at the relevant location, anywhere in Dublin.
