The Index only contains the stock of 30 publicly traded companies!That when a company does poorly it is replaced by one that does better.There are more than 15,000 publicly traded companies out there!
The Other Indexes Tell a Different Story:
The S&P 500 was at 1,552 in 2000It sunk to a low of 815 in 2001It has just reached its 2000 high this year (2007)!Poorly performing stocks have also been replaced!
Remember the Nasdaq?
With a high of over 5100 in 2000?Dropped to 1160 in 2002.That was a 77% loss!!Its at about 2600 in 2007.ONLY HALF of its 2000 Value!
How About The Dollar?
It was at about 120 on the dollar index in January of 2002.It was at about 80 in June, 2007!That means its worth 66 cents today!That means its lost 34% of its value in the last 5 Years.And its getting worse!
And Gasoline?
$1.37 a gallon in 2002.Over 3.00 per gallon in 2007!More than 20% inflation per year!
