• The inter-relationship between

Zàng

• The inter-relationship between

Zàng & Fŭ

Overall Inter-relationship of Zàng Fŭ Organ

• Heart & Lung

– Heart governs blood and Lung governs Qì

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

Heart moves blood

Carry Zōng qìSupport Lung to breath normally

Lung governs breath

produce Zōng qìSupport Heart to move blood

Zōng qì is the link between Lung and Heart.

• Heart & Liver – Heart governs blood; Liver stores

blood

– Heart houses the Mind; Liver houses Ethereal Soul

– Heart recognizes, controls and integrates emotions; Liver ensures the smooth flow of emotions.

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

• Heart governs blood; Liver stores blood

– Liver stores blood while Heart governs the

moving of blood in the whole body. When the

person wakes up, blood will be distributed to all

channels (by Heart). When the person falls

asleep, blood will return and store in Liver.– Wang Bing (Tang dynasty)

Heart & Liver

Heart & Liver

Heart houses Shen, Governs emotions

Liver house Hún(Ethereal), keeps

emotions flow smoothly

Heart & Liver function properly

Emotions are calm and comfortable, the person could

think clearly and do things reasonably

• Heart & Kidney– The mutual assistance of Fire and

Water

– The common root of Mind ( Shén ) and Essence ( Jīng)

– The inter-relationship of Heart and Kidney in the menstrual cycle.

• Liver & Lung

– The relationship between Lung-Qi

and Liver-Blood

– The relationship between the

descending of Lung-Qi and the

ascending of Liver-Qi

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

Lung governs Qì, Liver stores blood

Lung governs Qì

Liver stores blood

Supports the generation of

Descends to the right

Ascends to the left

Regulate the Qì moving in the whole body

• Liver & Spleen– Liver stores blood; Spleen makes

blood.

– The free flow of Liver-Qi helps the Spleen function of transformation and transportation

– The ascending of Spleen Qi helps the free flow of Liver-Qi.

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

Spleen governs transformation

• Liver & Kidney– Liver stores blood; Kidney stores Essence

– In gynaecology, Kidney are the origin of Tiān Guĭ and menstrual blood whereas Liver provides blood to the uterus.

– Both Liver and Kidney channels are closely connected to Rén Mài ( Directing Channel) and Chōng Mài ( Penetrating Channel).

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

Liver & Kidney

Kidney stores Essence

• Spleen & Lung– Spleen makes Qi and Lung governs

Qi.

– Spleen Qi ascends; Lung Qi descends.

– Deficiency of Spleen Qi may lead to phlegm, which affects Lung

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

• Spleen is the origin of phlegm.

• Lung is the container to store

phlegm.

Disucssion

• Spleen & Kidney– Spleen is the root of post-heaven Qi;

Kidney is the root of pre-heaven Qi.

– Kidney yáng provides the heat to Spleen which supports Spleen to transport and transform food essence

– Spleen Qi helps Kidney transformation and excretion of fluids.

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

• Spleen and Kidney, water is the

origin of world, earth is the mother of

world. So if Spleen and Kidney

function properly, whole body will be

healthy.• Li Zhong Zi (Ming dynasty)

Spleen & Kidney

• Lung & Kidney– Lung & Kidney work together to keep

normal breath.

– Zōng Qì / Gathering Qì ( related to Lung ) communicates with Yuán Qì / Original Qì.

– Lung Qì sends fluids down to Kidney

– Kidney Yáng evaporates some and sends resulting vapour back up to Lung to moisten Lung.

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng

Lung & Kidney

Lung governs Qi and breath

Kidney stores original Qi

Lung is the governor of Qi

Kidney is the root of Qi

• Spleen & Heart– Spleen makes blood; Heart governs blood

– Spleen Qi transports food-Qi to Heart where it is transformed into blood

– Heart blood nourishes Spleen

– The descending of Heart Qi helps Spleen’s transformation and transportation of food essences.

session 11-13.

The Inter-relationship Between Zàng & Fŭ

• Production of Qi: Kidney, Spleen, Lung

• Moving of Qi – 2 layers– Spleen & Stomach

– Liver & Lung

– The effects of five Zhì (emotions) on the moving of Qi

• Sān Jiāo is the passage of Qi moving
