10 Years On 126 members operating throughout all 32 local authorities (60 youth theatres, 55 freelancers and 11 associated organisations) 1000 professionals attended our professional development conference ‘Interchange’ and Sector Symposium 25,000 young people engaged every week by our members

Access and Diversity 30% of participants from areas of multiple deprivation 15% of participants are either deaf, hard of hearing, visually or physically impaired 15% of participants have additional learning requirements 14% of participants come from minority ethnic groups

Access and Diversity Majority of youth theatres provide weekly activities for £0-£5/week and also offer financial support Nearly all youth theatres consult with their young people three or more times a year about planning, delivery and evaluation of their work The majority of youth theatres consider themselves specialists in working with participants who have additional learning requirements or come from areas of multiple deprivation

Growth in Scale, Complexity and Impact

Many youth theatres finding it challenging to meet demand

More participants going on to study in the creative industries

More youth theatres having work reviewed in local and national press

A new platform for ambitious and provocative performance by young theatre-makers

Chrysalis

Positively enhance the public perception of creative work by young people.

Attract new audiences to youth theatre arts. Inspire Scotland’s youth arts sector.

Stimulate critical discussion.

Chrysalis

The only platform of its kind in Scotland. A new performance opportunity for Scotland’s youth theatre sector.

A new experience for audiences new to youth theatre arts. £1,000 available for each selected group to attend the festival.

Staged in Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. Curated by a consortium of specialists.

Marketed across Scotland, the UK and internationally.

Criteria for Application Performance participants should be aged 16-25.

The work presented must be new (i.e. created within a year of application)

A live performance of the work should be available to view between February and June 2015

Applications to both NFYT and Chrysalis of the same performance within the same year will not be accepted

Applicants must be YTAS member organisations (or willing to become a member if selected)

Applicants must demonstrate strong advanced preparation in their application (this can include supporting material)

Applications must be a joint effort between the group leader/practitioner and their young theatre-makers
