From The Editor...
I enjoy each time that I go into the classrooms for newsletter articles and see
what our students are learning and the many projects they do. I often like to
surprise individuals with personal articles. My goal with the Yellow Jacket “BUZZ”
is to bring the Laneville Independent School District progress and activities
into your homes whether you have children in school or not. Fryda Starling

May - June Calendar of Events
Yes this is the day of cell phones, i pads, Facebook and Twitter. Sometimes activities like
dyeing eggs don’t fit into this new day. Mrs. Hollis and the Kindergartners found time to
bring back the old days of dyeing eggs.
Mary, Mary quite contrary How does your garden grow? All the flowers, all the colors
All in a perfect row First the seeds And then the water
Keeping a little space Daisies here, roses there Each one has their place
Do you remember this poem as a child. The kindergartners have grown beans,
first the beans then the dirt and then the water. Looks like they all have growing hands.
Happy Spring!
LISD Elementary raised$425.00 dollars
to purchase books and more than 250
books donated for our summer reading!
A GIANT thank you to all who gave
money and books! Our students are very
excited to receive their books at the
end of the school year! This book drive
helped bring us together as a
community, but even more so you have
encouraged students to read. This
summer Laneville students have
the incredible opportunity to explore
the exciting adventures to be
found in books!
THANK YOU!
Happy Easter Everybody!

From the Superintendent’s Desk
From the Principal’s Desk It’s hard to believe that this school year has come and gone. My, how time flies when you’re having fun! It’s also great to how see our children have grown throughout the year. A few are even taller than T.J.
By the time you read this we will have completed our first round of STAAR testing. I am pleased to inform you that our 5th and 8th grade students have performed exceptionally well. I am so pleased with our students and teachers for the effort given this year and for the marked increases in each area. As final scores become available in other tested areas we will make timely notification. Please be aware that high school students will round out testing May 6-9. Please be certain that students in grades 9-11 are in at-tendance.
As we prepare to enter the month of May, I want to take a moment to make you aware of mandated calendar changes. Due to one day of inclement weather and 2 days for regional and state basketball tournaments respectively, students will attend school June 2-4, 2014. The faculty and I will make these last 3 days as much fun as we can for students, including field day on June 2, elementary water day and 8th grade graduation (later that evening at 6:00 p.m.) on June 3, and Head start, Pre-K & Kindergarten graduations on June 4 beginning at 9 a.m. Laneville will observe early dismissal at 1:00 pm. on each of these days. Senior graduation will remain on May 30th at 7 p.m. A full calendar of events is posted on the district’s web page www.lanevilleisd.org.
Parents, please be certain that your students are in attendance these last 3 days of school, as we are funded based on our average daily attendance. I thank you in advance for your diligent attention to this necessary schedule change.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve and thank you for sharing your most precious resource – your children!
Best wishes,
Dr. Nathan R. Templeton, Principal

Shuntara Loftis
Miss Angela Loftis is the proud mother of
Shuntara Loftis. Shuntara already has her
future laid out and is just waiting to graduate.
She will be attending McLennan Community
College in Waco, Texas to major in Veterinary
Technology. Shuntara’s mother Angela, Miss
Carroll Gipson and Mrs. Kourtney Lock have
influenced her in a positive way. She would like
to thank her mother first for always being there
and supporting her decisions. Next she wants to
thank Miss Carroll for pushing her and
motivating her to continue her education and be
successful, and Mrs. Lock for helping her get on
the right track and helping her choose a college.
One day Shuntara wants to give back to the
Laneville Community and Anadarko Church. One
memory that Shuntara has about school is in the
1oth grade they skipped class and hid in the
auditorium only to be caught by Dr. Templeton.
LANEVILLE Y E L L O W J A C K E T S
We have seen Mr. Marcus and Mrs. Yetta
Anderson cry but by no means are they
tears of sadness instead proud tears.
When Marquisha graduates it won’t stop
there. She is going to further her
education by attending Angelina
College and her goal is to be a Physical
Therapist. She can do just that because
of the tremendous support and
encouragement she has received from
her parents. All of her family has
encouraged her to strive to do her best.
She has had many memories of her
school days and the latest and greatest
was the Lady Jackets moving forward to
the playoffs. Having a successful
basketball season was a great way to
end her high school days.
Class of 2014 Honor Graduate
I hope this edition of the Yellow Jacket “Buzz” finds each of you doing well. Spring is most definitely here, and with it brings another round of state assessments, better known as the STAAR tests. Soon parents will begin receiving reports on their child’s, and the district’s performance. These standardized assessments are used by the state to measure student, campus, and district performance.
While I firmly believe in the need for assessment, I do not believe a single test on a single day is the only measure of student success and learning. I believe that testing data should be utilized to assess where students are and be used to identify their needs. The measure of a child and a school should not merely rest on snapshot, but rather on the pursuit of excellence across a variety of measures, such as student progress, career and college readiness, health and well-being, and extracurricular activities.
We will continue to strive to excel academically and in extracurricular activities, while not losing sight of what makes our district so special, which is the care, concern, and well-being we have for each individual student.
With this being the final newsletter of the 2013-2014 school year I would like to express a special thanks to Mrs. Fryda Starling who prepares our newsletter each month. I would also like thank the students, staff, and parents for making this a great school year at Laneville. This past year has seen an outpouring of support from our community, parents, organizations, businesses, and staff members, which only furthers my faith in the future success of our students and school.
I would like to wish each of you a safe and enjoyable summer and thank you for the opportunity and privilege to serve as superintendent here at Laneville.
Respectfully,
Brian Nichols

Anthony
Proud parents Mr. Anthony and Mrs. Annette Roberts can
say their son made it. Anthony Cornelious Roberts’ future
plans are to enter into the National Guard and continue his
education at Kilgore College for Advanced Welding.
Financial stability and taking care of his family are two very
important goals he has set for himself. Laneville High School
has helped Anthony and one day through his success he
wants to give back to LISD. Many memories happened
right here at school but what is most memorable to Anthony
is during his Senior year being a part of the State Finalist
Team in the Boys State Tournament. Many people have
influenced Anthony throughout his school years but the
most influential ones are his mother, Dr. Brian Nichols, and
Coach Hosea Lee.
Thank you everyone for what you have
done for me.

Where will Dontavious Harris be headed after he
graduates? Cedar Valley College in Dallas , Texas
is where he will lay his head and continue
education and his passion, playing basketball. Yes
Donta will be playing college basketball. Miss
Shunta Henry and Mr. Fredrick Harris couldn’t be
more proud of their son. Not many students can say
they had the opportunity to play in the Frank Erwin
Center during the Boys State Championship. Donta
says “thank you Laneville Community, family, and
friends for keeping me focused on books and
playing ball.” “If I fell off you were always there to
help me get back on track and push me to be the
best I can be.”

Hosea Lee Coach Of The Year Coach Hosea Lee is a 1987 graduate from Robert E. Lee in Tyler, Texas. He
continued his education and graduated in 1993 from East Texas State University,
Commerce which now is known as Texas A&M University - Commerce. His
successful career began in 1996 where he began coaching at South West Missouri
State. The 1998 - 1999 year started a winning streak when he and his team
moved forward to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen. Gainsville ISD hired Coach Lee as
Head Coach and with many talented players they progressed to the State Finals
2001 as State Finalist then in 2002 State Semi-Finalist and finally taking the 2002 year by storm and were
State Champs. In 2011 at Roxton ISD it was on the road again being awarded State Semi Finalist in 2011
and 2012. This year the 2013-2014 Laneville Yellow Jacket team brought home the Regional Champs
trophy as well as State Finalist trophy . East Texas Sports Network voted Hosea Lee Coach of the Year.
February 2014 Coach Lee was voted District Coach of the Year by the District 25-A Division II for an
outstanding 11-1 season and 1st Place in District. Late April Tyler Morning Telegraph voted him along
with Brownsboro Coach Tobin Reid Co-Coach of the Year for the East Texas Area. Tobin Reid also
went to school at Robert E. Lee and was Lee’s coach at one time. It is humbling for both of these coach-
es to find themselves being honored for doing what they both love, coaching. Chris Parry from the Tyler
Morning Telegraph was quoted saying, “These two coaches separated themselves by leading their teams with unforgettable seasons.” Coach Lee says, “Thank you to the players because without their hard work
it would not be possible. It is an honor to be recognized by the ETSN, District Coaches and Tyler Morning Telegraph.”

Kaun Alexander is the son of Mr. Daryl and Mrs. Shinna
Alexander. Kaun’s future plans after graduation
include going to the Army and afterwards going to
college to get his CDL and making a career of working
in the oil field. His family and friends have had a
positive influence on him and have helped him with
life’s problems that have come his way. One of the
most memorable times in school for Kaun was being
part of the team that made it to Austin to the State
Basketball Tournament. Kaun says” thank you mom,
dad, and God and I will give back to you all and
Laneville ISD for all that has been done for me.”

memorable day it was. Lexy says “we were back
together and ready for the new year.” Lexy was

Mrs. Julia Faye Anderson
Historian
47 Years
Laneville ISD honors Mrs. Julia Faye Anderson
for 47 years of dedicated service to the Laneville
Independent School District. The district has
been blessed to have a dedicated employee like
Mrs. Anderson for all of these years. There have
been many changes in these 47 years throughout
the district but one thing that hasn’t changed is
her work ethic, love for the children, and her
dedication to the school. She has seen in some
cases 2 generations come through Laneville
School.
Mrs. Anderson started in 1966 as the Allen
School office secretary. She worked as a Library
Aide for 17 years, in the classroom as a Math and
Reading Aide, and in the Kindergarten class. She
always was there to help our kids. In 1995 she
became the Parent Involvement Coordinator and
she is still carrying out those duties today. Mrs.
Julia had a vision of it being a new playground
area for our Elementary kids and with her
heading out the operations our kids now enjoy
the new playground. Many thanks go out to Mrs.
Julia. We love and appreciate all that she does
for our community, district, staff and students.
“Anybody can serve. You only need a heart full
of grace, a soul generated by love.”

Breanne Pereles has dad, Mr. Ricardo Pereles Jr. and
mom Mrs. Monica Pereles on her side. First Tyler Jr.
college, next University of Texas - Austin or Stephen F.
Austin then law school. The most important thing to her
is to be a great mother and have a career as a
corporate lawyer at one of the many prestigious law
firms. She has her future all mapped out. Breanne
thanks her mother most of all and all of the aunts,
uncles and church family for all they have done over the
years. Jacolby Robinson Jr., her son has made her
grow up, opened her eyes up to something great and
taught her to love herself and others. Giving back to
her church and Laneville ISD is on top of her list after
getting her career started. Although leaving Laneville
ISD she will keep the memories such as when the girls
team loaded the bus for the playoffs it was a long hard
road and they made it.

Mr. Tim Blanton and Mrs. Kimberly Renfro with aunts and
uncles have encouraged Kendal to do good in school and
be the best she can be. Kendal thanks all of her family for
always being right there for her. The Laneville community
and church have given to Kendal and she in turn will give
back to them. Kendal has managed to do it all work,
sports, school, and her social life. Her future plans begin
with attending and graduating from Tyler Junior College
then working as a Paralegal while attending University of
Houston. She would like to one day own her own law firm.
