Year 10 Music Learning Map

Musical Forms and Devices: Set Work

This term we will focus on the stylistic features of the Baroque to the Romantic genres of music. We will learn to navigate and understand a score looking closely at harmony and tonality, performance directions, ornamentation, melodic devices and chords and cadences. You will focus on a solo performance piece to learn and perfect. We will study our first set work Bach: Badinerie.

Classical Style: String Quartet Composition

This term you will compose your first composition piece a string quartet demonstrating a secure knowledge and application stylistic features of the Classical era. Develop knowledge of the circle of fifths, degrees of the scale and modulation.

- T E R M 2 -

Popular Music and Fusion: Set Work

This term we will perform a popular song as part of a musical ensemble developing ensemble rapport balance and communication. Using Sibelius, we will compose our own pop song demonstrating knowledge of popular music features and listening to a variety of popular musical styles to inform or compositions. We will study our second set work Toto: Africa.

Continuing to develop performance technique and wider knowledge of music terminology.

You will apply your knowledge of the elements of music to enhance your composition. Knowledge of using Sibelius from year 8 and year 9.Using knowledge of triads and cadences from term 1.
