• EPQ deadline is Wednesday 24th June– If you have applied to complete the EPQ, please attend a meeting in the Sixth Form Study room this THURSDAY 25th June at LUNCHTIME

– This will provide you with a further insight into the course.

– Failure to turn up will prevent you being allowed onto the course in September

• Head Boy/ Girl short‐listing will commence this week and those selected for interviews will be informed

Applying to university

• More than 592,000 people applied for university this year

• 2% more than in 2014• Roughly 35% of all 18‐year‐olds applied• Length of Personal Statement – up to 4,000 characters or 47 lines of text (including spaces and blank lines) 

• Make sure you don’t copy – UCAS software detects any similarities and this could jeopardise the application 

Why is the Personal Statement so important?

• At least two thirds of your personalstatement should relate to the course

• The personal statement will be seen by allyour choices and could be used as the basisfor an interview, so be prepared to answerquestions on it

• Remember, in most cases, this will be the onlywritten work that the course tutor seesbefore making a decision

Work experience

• Include details of jobs, placements, work experience orvoluntary work, particularly if it's relevant to yourchosen course(s). Try to link any experience to skills orqualities related to the course

• Make it clear how long was spent on each placement

• Think about how they demonstrate your personality,skills and abilities. Try to link them to the skills andexperience required for your course(s).

• In the infamous words of James Bond,  the name is Bond James Bond…Visiting Universal studios when I was 17 made me want to work in something to do with film…

• I want to be a doctor because I am interested in science and I enjoy helping people. I know this because I am always trying to look for ways to help others, whether it is in the supermarket or the airport. I think medicine is a very challenging career, but the hard work pays off, literally!
