Outline

• Objectives

• Tasks and portals used for data distribution

• Overview of schedule and deliverables

• Person-months per partner

Objectives

• Dissemination of scientific-technical results, data, metadata, demonstration results, and knowledge how to exploit the observation and modelling components, and to synchronize SWARP activities with related dissemination channels.

Tasks

• T7.1 - Public web site [Months: 3-36]– NERSC (lead), IFREMER, subcontractor (video)– Public web site will be established at the beginning of

the project – Used to actively disseminate project information and

results to all interested users and media• Overview of project and activities• Public presentations• Promotional material, brochures, fact sheets• Products examples• Announcements and news

– Will be built using Drupal open source CMS

Tasks

• T7.1 - Public web site [Months: 3-36]– A short educational movie will be prepared using

videos from field experiments, satellite images and model simulations. The movie will use advanced animation techniques to merge satellite and model results to visualize the dynamics of waves in ice to raise public awareness about the associated risks.

– The movie will be produced by a professional company, and shown at relevant venues (such as conferences and user meetings) as well as on the public project web site.

Tasks

• T7.2 - Data distribution [Months: 3-36]– NERSC, IFREMER

– Data from the NAVTOR’s services in WP4 will also be distributed publicly by existing data servers at NERSC and Ifremer.

– The goal is to stimulate other services in the MIZ such as search and rescue and oil spills response.

– New parameters generated by the project (maximum floe size) will be added to the output NetCDF/CF files

• Output files will be compliant with CF1.4 conventions or above, for easy distribution through the standard Web Map Service protocol

• Metadata will be marked up with keywords from the NERC Vocabulary Server (http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk), a SeaDataNet standard

Tasks

• T7.2 - Data distribution [Months: 3-36]– The open data service will conform to the INSPIRE

directive, allowing the following services: view, download, subset and invoke.

• All services will be accessible through two portals – European Marine Information System (EUMIS)

NETMAR portal (http://netmar.nersc.no)

– SOLab Arctic Portal (http://bit.ly/15k2FDW)

• Download by FTP and OPeNDAP data servers– OPenDAP also allows subsetting

EUMIS portal

EUMIS portal• Example features: extraction of time series, change of

map projection

SOLab Arctic Portal

SOLab Arctic Portal• Example: Big polar low near Greenland (2010-10-20)

Tasks

• T7.3 - Service sustainability [Months: 18-36]– NAVTOR, NERSC, NIERSC, NERC, ODL– This task will evaluate the costs of the SWARP service as

marginal costs above the existing services running at competing services will be investigated and the positioning of the SWARP services will be analyzed in the evolving landscape.

– Different business models will be studied beyond the project duration for each partner separately, considering the involvement of users in the private and public sectors. National and European support for innovative services will also be sought.

– A database of potential and existing users will be maintained in the course of the project and the sers will be actively be updated of the results from test cases. The feedback from the user workshop held at Mo 30 will be used as input to this report...
