“An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”
April 12, 2013
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take the opportunity to recognize two of our 4th grade students. Every year the Illinois
Principal’s Association recognizes students from Lake County schools. Each year our teachers nominate
students based on character, citizenship, and overall effort/work quality. This year we have selected two
students to be honored and they are Olivia Henne and Jackson Krook. These two 4th graders will be
recognized on April 17th at the Illinois Principal’s Student Recognition Breakfast at Vernon Hills High
School. Congratulations to these students and keep up the great work!
Next Thursday our Fine Arts Committee will be hosting an assembly for our students. The group Ac Rock
will be performing the “a cappella rock show”. We would like to thank our PTO and Fine Arts Committee
for continuing to bring us amazing performances!
I would like to wish good luck to our Destination Imagination team members who will be competing at
the state tournament this weekend in DeKalb. We know how hard you have worked to prepare for this
competition.
Spring photos are on Friday, April 19th. It is optional. If you would like to purchase pictures, please return
the form and your child will be photographed. Only those students who have brought back forms will
have their picture taken.
We hope to see all Woodview families at our Art show on April 25th.
Sincerely,
Cathy Santelle

NEWS FROM THE PTO
Dear Woodview Friends,
Together with our parent community, our PTO Board has had a tremendously satisfying and
successful 2012-2013 school year, having hosted several family events and fundraisers that
enabled us to purchase five SMART Boards for Woodview classrooms, a sound system for the Music department, many library books, as well as to provide funding for Exploration Day,
field trips, and several fine arts assemblies, plus many, many classroom supplies and materials for our teachers and kids. Together, we are a community of parents that gets
things done and makes a difference in our school!
Now, the Woodview PTO is looking ahead to next year, and we want to include you. Several PTO Board positions will be open, and we'd love to fill them soon, to ensure a smooth
transition and to be able to continue to provide these "extras" for our families, teachers, and children. The following positions are open:
President
Secretary
Ways and Means (2 positions available)
We wish to continue the good work with a new group of parents who want to be a part of the great things our PTO does! Please contact us if you're interested in learning more about any
of the positions.
Thank you!

WHAT IS EXPLORATION DAY?WHAT IS EXPLORATION DAY?WHAT IS EXPLORATION DAY?WHAT IS EXPLORATION DAY? Exploration Day is one of the most exciting days of the year, filled with exploring, learning, and having fun. The students will choose from
over 20 hands-on presentations and move about the school experiencing interactive and interesting topics. The day will begin with a
ceremony in the gym, and end with a video in the classrooms, showing highlights from the day’s activities.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! It takes more than 100 volunteers to make this wonderful day the success it always is.
Exploration Day volunteers help presenters in classrooms as well as assist with classroom supervision during the lunch hour. You can
volunteer for the whole day or just morning or afternoon. Lunch will be provided for all presenters and volunteers. All half-day volunteers
are welcome to stop in before or after their shift for lunch.
If you are able to help out on that day, please indicate that below and a committee member will contact you.
I would like to volunteer to help on Exploration Day:

Thank you so much to all who have already volunteered to help on Exploration Day. Many parents have offered to share
their talents as presenters which has allowed us to put together one of the best Exploration Day’s yet! Look for the list of
sessions to come home early next week. Please help your child fill it out and send it back by Thursday, April 18th so we can
begin the process of scheduling the students into their sessions.
We have also had many families already volunteer to help out in many other areas on Exploration Day, but we can always use
more help! If you have the time, please consider joining us for part, or all, of this exciting day. If you have any questions,
please contact one of the Exploration Day coordinators listed on the form below.

Clip & save Tyson Project A+ labels.
Turn in the labels to school. Your
school redeems them for cash. Each
label is worth $.26.
Here is another way to earn money for
Woodview. Simply clip the Box Tops
from your favorite General Mills
products and send them to school with
your child!
Chef Tony says, “Spring
like weather must be right
around the corner. It will
soon be time to take the grill
out. Check out Market Day
for some delicious items for
your grill!”
Did you know that Woodview
collects Campbell’s soup labels? The
labels are worth points and must have
the UPC code in order to be used. The
points can be redeemed for books, gym
equipment, and other items for our
school. Each teacher has a box in the
classroom to collect labels and box tops!
