Wonders in mathematics

Presented by J. MANJULA

Associate professorHOD, Humanities & Science

Mathematics is mother of all the sciences.

Just as a mother guides her kids in a right direction, Mathematics also guides all the sciences as well as non-sciences in a proper direction.

THERE IS NO SCIENCE OR OTHER SOCIAL SCIENCES THAT IS NOT GUIDED BY THE MATHEMATICS.

Believe it or not “Mathematics is everywhere, there is no escape”

During the first half of 19th century, mathematics is just abstractions and deductions.

It took two centuries to get full benefit from the mathematical principles of physical science, formulated by Isaac Newton.

Now as century closes, the historic alliances of mathematics with science are expanding rapidly.

Historical Evolution of Mathematics

The Second World War forced to develop many new and powerful methods of applied mathematics.

It is fueled by Sputnik, and accelerated the growth in both education and research in mathematics

During this same period, however, striking applications of mathematics have emerged across the entire landscape of natural, behavioral, and social sciences.

All advances in design, control, and efficiency of modern airliners depend on sophisticated mathematical models that simulate performance before prototypes are built.

Present scenario

From medical technology (CAT scanners) to economic planning (input/output models of economic behavior)

From genetics (decoding of DNA) to geology (locating oil reserves)

Mathematics has made an indelible imprint on every part of modern science, even as science itself has stimulated the growth of many branches of mathematics.

Engineering as you all know is specialized branch of science that constantly monitors the changing needs of the world and design and manufacture products that could make life simpler, efficient and fast

Particularly the differential and the integral mathematics, trigonometry, geometry are of utmost importance when the point of discussion is regarding the specialized science of engineering

Applications in Engineering

The civil engineering depends hugely on the geometric and trigonometric logics

The computer sciences and computing is largely dependent on logic, numeric analysis, algebra, and combinatorics

Electrical engineering entails a lot of critical and complex calculations which again comes under the purview of mathematics

The network analysis, crypto analysis, operation research and management heavily utilize the mathematical principles, logic, formulae and calculations.

Does math mimic nature or does nature mimic math

SYMMETRY

Hexagonal Shapes in Nature

ripples in water always form concentric circles

The Fibonacci sequence is a numeric pattern that presents itself in countless species of living organisms.
