The Assyrians adapted the wheel from the Sumerians, specifically for the purpose chariots, with which they used to conquer and build an empire.
Wheels with spokes were made later around 2000 B.C. This video (on the left) will show an early model of Ashurbanipal riding a chariot with spoked wheels.
Roller bearings were used around 100 B.C, to make the wheel turn smoother.
