Vocabulary: WHOLE NUMBER
• AKA: a counting number.
• One of the complete numbers (1, 2, 3, …) or zero.
Vocabulary: DECIMAL
• A symbol (.) used to demonstrate that a number is a fraction or not complete.
• The opposite of a whole number.
• For example: 1.5, 8.77, 9.201
Vocabulary: PLACE VALUE CHART
• A tool used to organize numbers.
• The chart shows the order and names of the places for a number.
Vocabulary: STANDARD FORM
• Use one or more of the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 to write a number.
• Example: 1,023
Vocabulary: SHORT WORD FORM
• Use the words billions, millions, thousands, etc. to write a number.
• Use the word ‘and’ to represent the decimal.
• Example: 1 thousand, 23
Vocabulary: EXPANDED FORM
• Break the number down into each digit and use addition signs.
• Example: 1000 + 20 + 3
