Who are We?

“H. A. P. P. Y.”

What do we do?

Helpers – social workers help people in many different ways and in many different job functions, but helping is always a social work function. We are problem-solvers.

What do we do?

Advocates – social workers help people by standing up or standing in for them when they are unable to do that for or by themselves. There are many reasons people need advocacy. We handle it!

What do we do?

Poverty – social workers have a rich tradition and deep history of working with those living in poverty. Our movement began with “Settlement Houses”. One of our major goals is to eliminate poverty worldwide, and many social work services work toward that end.

What do we do?

Prevention – social workers attempt to prevent potential problems, as opposed to always trying to solve them. Prevention efforts are generally aimed at disease, social or mental health issues, injustice or inequality.

What do we do?

Youth – Many people who choose social work do so because they want to work with children. We have jobs in multiple venues working with children, teaching problem-solving, helping to overcome obstacles and improve emotional health of our next generation.
