Introduction to Enterprise Manager 13c Architecture of Enterprise Manager Components involved New & Enhanced Features in 13c Q&A

Provides a centralized monitoring and management platform for IT infrastructure.

One tool to monitor and manage all Oracle databases. Can manage and monitor various targets (host, ASM, RAC, Listener, Weblogic,

Tomcat, Apache and many more). It’s possible to add more target types using plug-ins. Easy to maintain: Familiar components (Oracle products), My Oracle Support.

Oracle Enterprise Manager 13c therefore introduces “always on” monitoring

Planned downtime windows - another exciting feature being introduced is “notification blackouts”

“Stack management” - unification of hardware and software management

“Infrastructure management” - target types: servers, storage, network, VMs in Enterprise Manager.

“Integration of Exacheck” - generate automated notifications and reports for any violation in their Exadata configurations.

Architecture Agents Management Server (OMS) Repository (OMR) Plug-ins Oracle JVMD Engine Oracle BI Publisher OEM Console EMCTL EMCLI

Converts an un-managed host to a managed host in OEM. Working in conjunction with the plug-ins to monitor targets

running on a host. “Central Agent” {Default Agent – to monitor OMS host} Standalone management agent.

Web-based Application. Communicates with Management agent and plug-ins. Discover, Monitor and Manage targets. Store collected information in repository Renders user interface of OEM Deployed in Middleware_Home Weblogic server OMS Plug-ins JDK Oracle WT Directory Oracle Common Configuration files

Storage location Information collected by agent gets stored OMS upload data received from Agents OMR organize data so that it can be retrieved by OMS and displays in

console At the time of installation, OEM installation wizard configure OMS in

your existing certified database

Pluggable entities Offer special management capabilities Plug-ins works in conjunction with the OMS, the management agent

to monitor every target Deployed to both OMS and Agent as well Earlier release, plug-in enabled to monitor only 3rd Party targets, now

all types of targets Independent release cycles

Java Virtual Machine Diagnostics Enables to diagnose performance issues in java application. Eliminate need to reproduce problems Reduce time required to resolve these problems, improves application

availability & performance From 13c, one JVMD Engine is installed by default with

Fusion Middleware Plug-in JVMD agents have to be manually deployed on JVM’s

Primary reporting tool. Provide pixel-perfect reports & dashboard Huge variety of report & dashboard layouts From 13c, BI Publisher is installed and configured by default 1 BI publisher with 1 OMS

EM CLI enables users to access Enterprise Manager functionality through a command-line interface or scripts. EM CLI is fully integrated with Enterprise Manager's security and user administration functions. Examples of EM CLI tasks you can accomplish are as follows:

Create a new Enterprise Manager administrator account. Monitor and manage targets, jobs, groups, and blackouts.

EMCTL is a command line utility installed with EM to administer or control the core components of Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, particularly Oracle Management Service (OMS) and Oracle Management Agent (Management Agent).

Framework & Infrastructure Enterprise Monitoring & Incident Management Database Management Middleware Management Cloud Management Life Cycle Management Configuration Management Big Data Appliance Management Oracle Java Message Services OBIEE Infrastructure Management

Alta Skin Re-touch System Broadcast Multiple Proxy Support Corrective Action Enhancement Intelligent Incident Compression Job System Enhancements Improved Performance Page Monitoring & Diagnostics EM13.1 Installer Enhancements

UI has been refreshed with new color scheme, more cleaner icons and large font size

More tablet friendly experience Faster page load time Enhanced visualization & graphics

System Broadcast• Super Administrator can send pop-up messages from EM to other

administrators users.• Messages can also be sent using EMCLI “send_system_broadcast”

verb

Verb used: send_system_broadcast

$ ./emcli login -username=sysman Enter password : Login successful

$ ./emcli send_system_broadcast -toOption="ALL“ -messageType="WARN" -message="System Maintenance, 6pm" Successfully requested to send System Broadcast to users.

Multiple proxy servers can be used by OMS for its communication to the Management Agent.

Addition of new proxies will not require OMS bounces proxies are managed as complete targets so that users can easily

identify a proxy if it is down

Corrective Action {E}

• Task to automatically fix events or metric alerts• All event types are supported in 13c• Can run automatically or can be invoked manually by administrator• Development Life cycle support {Develop, Test & Publish}

Corrective Action {E}

Corrective Action {E}

Events related to same issue can be combined together. Criteria for grouping includes:-

By target By event category By metric

Time window can also be used to group events Event grouping reduces over all volume of Incidents created.

Page Performance Monitoring & Diagnostics Reports SQL statements which are increasing response time for poorly

performing UI console Better visibility of SQL executions triggered within the page Can see pages performing poorly in last 24 hrs.

EM 13.1 Installer Enhancements

• Integration of BI Publisher• During upgrade from 12c, BI Publisher will also be upgraded• JVMD is installed and configured by default with OFMW plug-in

Notification Blackouts Always-On-Monitoring Incident Dashboard Metric Enhancement Export & Import of Incident rule sets. Selenium Based Tests End User Service Enhancement to Corrective Actions

Even under blackout targets will be monitored but notification will not be send.

Alerts can be still viewed in the Enterprise Manager Once the blackout ends, event will be created and notification will be send. Two types of notification blackout:

Maintenance Notification Blackout Notification-only Notification Blackout

Always-On-Monitoring• Provides continuous monitoring of target down or other critical alert

even while EM is under maintenance. • Email notifications can be configured to be sent when target

down and other critical alerts are detected.

Incident manager displays incident view in the new incident dashboard Highlight Areas:

Incidents of FATAL Severity Escalated Incidents Unassigned Incidents

Incident Summary Chart Auto refresh of Dashboard Dashboard can be customized by adding charts. Overall also helps in Workload Distribution.

Ability to change metric comparison operator. User defined business hours for Adaptive thresholds. 13c supports compute expressions in Metric Extensions. Ability to define a Metric Extension for Single Instance & RAC

instance alone.

Incidents Rule Sets can now be exported from an EM site and Imported into another.

Stored in the form of XML file. Exported Rule set include:-

User subscribed to the rules Email address of recipients Targets on which rule set operates Notification methods

Selenium IDE recorder Recorded scripts are created with Selenium IDE Recorder TestNG framework can also be used to create scripts Scripts are stored in Software Library

Displays end user performance & behavior info captured by RUEI. By discovering a RUEI system in Enterprise Manager, all applications, service

which are managed & monitored by RUEI become individual “End User Service” target in EM13c.

Corrective Actions {E}

• EM13c now supports corrective actions for all event types.• Support for Compliance Rules.• Automated invocation using Event Rules.• Ability to attach latest corrective action automatically

OEM13c “Database machine” target upgrade. Inter-continental Zero Data Loss Database Consolidation Workbench “Database Service” target type Enhanced “Optimizer Statistics Management” support.

In EM13c we can continue to use existing Exadata database machine target to be monitored as 12c target type.

13c monitoring features can be adopted anytime by just “Click Button” and convert it to 13c target type.

EM13c shows photo realistic view of Database machine hardware on DBM homepage.

EM 13c introduces “Inter-continental Zero Data Loss” Concept of Far-Sync Standby database

Far-Sync database has no datafiles, its only job is to receive Redo and forward it to one or more destination.

EM13c supports creation of Far-Sync standby database as target.

EM13c provides end-to-end solution for managing database consolidation

DCW has three phases- Planning, Migration & Validation Planning – use historical workload metric for both database and host to produce

optimal consolidation plan Migration – automates entire database consolidation implementation process.

Different mode of consolidation is supported in DCW Validation – DCW uses SQL performance analyzer to validate SQL Workload

Performance on consolidated platform.

Manage & monitor Oracle Database Service as EM target. Can be added manually or using Auto-discovery option. Home Page Information:-
