Banner XE: The next generation of Banner

35

What is Banner XE?• XE = eXtensible Ecosystem = Ellucian’s technology

strategy emphasizing extensibility, configuration, usability, openness, scalability, and evolution

• Uses common web 2.0 user experience• Uses standards based, open source, modern

technologies (HTML 5, CSS3, JS)• No Java plug-in needed!!!!• Modularized to eliminate larger system dependencies

and be more plug and play• Will coexist alongside Banner 8 during the transition

Linda Johansen, IT Apps, Shared Components

36

XE at UNM• XE requires a significant change in technical

architecture. Preparations began two years ago• Just completed a year-long proof-of-concept

project to design and prototype the new architecture

• XE is modular and will be implemented gradually; will co-exist with current Banner

• Have begun the first implementation, planned for October 2015, more to follow

Linda Johansen, IT Apps, Shared Components

37

38

Banner 9 vs. Banner 8• Banner 8 is the version we are using today• Banner 9 (XE) uses the same database, same

tables, same logic, same functionality, but has different look and feel

• Some Banner 9 pages are completely new and different, some are simply “translated” into the new format

42

Forms transformation• Tool automatically converts Banner 8 INB Oracle

Forms to HTML5/Java-based pages• No change to fields or functionality, just

converted to new format• Aggressive timeline– HR transformed forms delivered by Q3 2015– Finance transformed forms delivered by Q1 2016– Student, Bursar, and Financial Aid transformed forms

delivered by Q3 2016
