Volunteering “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we Give.” – Winston Churchill Why do YOU volunteer? Is it to get you out of the house? Is it to keep you physically and mentally healthy? Is it the fun and fulfillment it brings to your life? Is it the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference? Is it because you want to give back to the community? No matter what your reasons are for volunteering for the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup, we thank you. Here’s a few key dates when the Host Committee will show how much we appreciate your support… and the benefits you’ll receive as a volunteer for the event. November 26th – The Volunteer Rally at the Days Inn Conference Room from 4:30-‐8:30 pm where you will pick up your official gear and share beer and pizza with your fellow volunteers. January 9th – An exclusive invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Banquet in the Penticton Trade and Conference Centre that includes the official opening of The Original 16 Patch. If you’re a newcomer to championship curling, get ready to party!

January 10-‐13th – Access to the Event any time you are not volunteering. The first act to take to the stage in the Patch is March Hare, a versatile Vancouver dance band that delivers everything from good old rock n’ roll and classic country to disco and Latin tunes… complete with glitzy lighting and colourful costume changes. Your complimentary access
to the Patch extends throughout the competition anytime you’re not serving a volunteer shift. Check out this great entertainment lineup! January 10th – The Young’uns, hailing from Lumby, are one of the most sought-‐after cover bands in BC’s Southern Interior. Their extensive set list includes a wide range of country, classic rock and current top 40 hits. January 11 & 12th – Fan favourites at Season of Champions events across the country, the Chevelles will be shifting into high gear for a two-‐night stand in the Patch. Renowed as one of the best cover bands in the land, the boys will be bringing back the glory days of the classic live rock experience!

Behind the Scenes with…
Steve Gjukich Vice-‐Chair of Hosting
Steve Gjukich got his first taste of curling as a junior in Grade 8. After scoring an eight-‐ender in just his second year, it was inevitable that he would be hooked on the sport for life.
Education took Steve away from the game for a while, but the feel of the ice under his feet once again in a 1997 bonspiel was enough to bring him back to league and competitive play.
A native of Trail, Steve graduated with a law degree from the University of British Columbia and moved to Penticton in 1981 take on a position in a law firm that serves in general practice.
With a strong belief in community, Steve volunteers for many organizations including the Kinsmen, Eagles and Masons. He is currently Vice President of the Penticton Curling Club where he has been a proud board member since 1995.
Steve loves the team concept of the World Financial Group Continental Cup with its comparison to golf’s Ryder Cup. “It’s great to see the camaraderie among the athletes and their interaction with fans and volunteers. The event is a perfect opportunity to promote the beauty and community spirit of Penticton and area.”
