Purpose of Today’s Meeting

• Provide background• Describe the services the community

will receive from the new station• Present the building site plan• Present a concept of the proposed

building • Present the status of the West Division

Patrol Station construction project • Answer any questions

Background• Serves the needs of the West Urban Centre• Incorporates 20 year growth projections – SGI 2013• Replaces Abbeyhill West Patrol & Community Police Centre• Some Patrol functions will be relocated from Greenbank

station• Located on 5+ acres at 211 Huntmar Drive • 41,000 square feet• 1 storey best for operational efficiency/suited to this site• LEED Silver certification • Operational needs drive a fast-tracked schedule.

Foundations need to be completed this fall to minimize risks for completion on time and within budget

Community Services

• Information Desk with space for 3 officers• Community Police Centre with space for

volunteers• Community Meeting Room• Patrol Services (all west rural zones and half of

west urban zones)

• All West District Services (SROs, NHOs, Traffic,

District Investigations)

Traffic Flow & Deployment

• Shift change times do not conflict with Scotiabank hockey schedules and other events (Afternoon shift is 5 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. Night shift 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.)

• There are a number of different routes for officers to get to their patrol zones (access to West Patrol zones is not dependent on using 417 )

• Officers are being deployed to majority of patrol zones in the opposite direction of peak hour traffic

Site Features

• Proximity and distance to “400” series highways

• Sufficient and separate parking for fleet and staff

• Public transit friendly – located near current transit– close proximity to proposed future

transitway• Stand alone facility and parking• Secure site

Site Development Factors • L-shaped site with limited exposure on

Palladium Drive • Future street on south east of site must be

considered• Future road widening (9 m) must be

considered • Future gas station – visual obstruction, traffic,

proximity • Site access and control given adjacent

occupancy (Scotiabank Place)• Large quantity of on-site parking (includes 20

visitor spots)
