WELCOME TO MS. TICE’S

LANGUAGE ARTS CLASS

The 7th Grade Edition

A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

…this is my fifth year teaching at SMS,

I’ve taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

…no, I’m not married. I have no children.

I live alone, with my cat. To answer more

personal questions, I’m going to have to

get to know you a little better.

TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE

I once had a three legged cat.

I was in the Marching Chiefs at FSU.

I lived in South Korea for two years.

NOW LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU

On your scrap paper write down two things that are

true about yourself and one thing that is a lie. Make

it good, your best friend should have a hard time

guessing your lie.

Now, turn to your shoulder partner and share your 2

Truths and a Lie.

A FEW OTHER THINGS TO THINK

ABOUT

WHEN YOU WALK INTO CLASS

A SPECIAL NOTE

AT THE END OF CLASS

AT THE END OF CLASS

Wait for me to tell you it’s time to

pack up.

AT THE END OF CLASS

Wait for me to tell you it’s time to

pack up.

After you’ve packed everything up,

sit down. No one leaves until

everyone is seated and the room

is clean.

Line up ONLY when Ms. Tice has

told you to.

AT THE END OF CLASS

After everyone is sitting quietly and the room is

clean, I will tell the class that it is time to leave, and

you will calmly walk down the hallway to your next

class.

In the hallway you will walk in a line, one that is

straight, because if a 5 year old can do it, so can you.

The line will stay on the right side of the hallway

until you get to your next class.

TURNING IN WORK

TURNING IN WORKMost of your work will be completed in your interactive notebooks (which I have kindly provided for you). However, on occasion we will be turning things in.

Usually important things.

For a grade.

TURNING IN WORK

When that happens, this heading should be in the

top right hand corner of your paper:

First and last name

Date

Class Period

TURNING IN WORK

When turning in classroom

assignments you will deposit them in

your class tray or someone will

collect the papers for your group

and deposit them into the tray.

GRADING

GRADING

Assessments = 70%• Tests, projects, quizzes

Assignments = 20%• Classwork, journals, notebook checks

Independent Reading = 10%

AND BECAUSE I KNO W SO MEO NE WILL ASK…

Yes, sometime I do provide you with

opportunities to earn some extra credit.

However, they are built into projects or

tests. It’s not something I “give” to you.

If you’re waiting to “fix” your grade with

extra credit, you should know that’s not

really how it works here.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN I’M ABSENT?

WHAT ABOUT WHEN I ’M ABSENT?

I use this thing called the internet. On it I have a website, the

address is ticelangarts.weebly.com. I update it everyday with

our class assignments and homework.

If you are one of those who, sadly, does not have access to the

internet at home, you can also ask a neighbor/friend/peer. If no

one who acknowledges your existence will help you, come and

ask me. I will give you a condensed version of what we did and

give you a heads up on assignments you will have to make up.

WHAT ABOUT WHEN I ’M ABSENT?

Under the long bulletin board, is a huge sign that

says EXTRA HANDOUTS FOR NOTEBOOK. Under it

is a box that has all the extra handouts that need to

be in your Notebook. Next to it is a basket that says

“Other Extra Handouts”. You’ll never guess what I

put in it.
