Welcome to Mrs. Kwon’s 2nd
Grade Class
Curriculum Night! 2014-2015
Meet Mrs. Kwon My educational background: I grew up in Georgia and graduated
from Parkview High School. Graduated from Emory University with a
BA in Psychology and a Masters in Education from Piedmont College.
This is my 10th year of teaching. I’m married with 2 daughters.
My Goals My goals are to help your child reach their fullest
potential, master 2nd grade standards and prepare for additional responsibilities in third grade as well as bringing the 21st Century into our classroom through technology.
Your child’s learning experience starts at home so we’ll work as a team to ensure the success of your child. Together we can prepare them to become life long learners.

Grades
A 90-100
-This is reserved for excellence, a step above everyone else. The student performs well above average. Works hard and work is always complete.
B 80-89
-Consistently strong performance. Work is completed.
C 74-79
-Average. Learns new concepts through many repetitions. Student completes work.
D 70-73
-The student is working below grade level. Student performance is one year (or less than one year) below grade level.
U 69 and below
-The student is working more than one year below grade level. Student work is usually incomplete or not turned in at all.
Peachtree Elementary Guidelines for Grading
Progress Reports are sent home half way through each quarter but you are always welcome to check your child’s grades via the Portal.
Tests in 2nd Grade SPG’s (Student Performance Goals- Gwinnett County)
Language Arts and Math Pre- August Post- May (Counts 1% of their grade)
CogAT (Cognitive Aptitude Test) Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal September 15-17
ITBS (Iowa Test of Basis Skills) Reading, Writing, Math, SS/SC, and Writing & Math October 20-24
Please send students to school on time, and well rested.

Classroom Rules Our classroom is a community. In our
community, we have rules and procedures to help us get along with each other and know what to do.
Our class rules are: Work Quietly
Listen and follow directions
Be responsible, be a self-manager and be prepared for learning
Be respectful of yourself and others
Consequence/Discipline 1st time: Verbal warning
2nd time: Pull a crayon
3rd time: Pull crayon, change of scenery
4th time: Pull crayon, Time-Out in another location, parent involvement
Colored Crayons

Best of the bunch bananas and Blue School Tickets- Earned for Great Behavior and exceptional knowledge
Trash Party for earning compliments by administrators and teachers.
Homework Homework is a way to practice the skills we’ve
learned in class as well as learning to be responsible.
(HW Chart is in their Daily Blue Folder in a poly sheet.)
Read for 10-15 minutes and write the title in their Agenda book.

How can parents support their child’s learning?
Communicate with Mrs. Kwon via email/notes.
Check homework & sign agendas daily.
Practice Fry word lists and review any work sent home.
Check out our class web page for additional information and helpful websites.
Establish a specific homework area with supplies.
Students need to get at least 9-11 hours of sleep.
Join the PTA.
