A Song “We’ve Got to be That Light”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haUj3qUncOs
Lyrics—
Every generation must pass onThe wisdom of the previous generationsIf we don't keep the next chain connected to the ones that came before itIt's all gone
And who's the glue between those chains? It's you, it's you
This is a sacred trustAs educators and parentsA sacred trustWe've got to be that light
We've got to be that lightThat shining light that guides the wayWe've got to be that lightThat shining light that guides the way
A classroom is a sacred placeIt's not a room in a schoolIt's any placeAny place where a teacher helps a childPatiently and artfullyIn their journey
In this sacred placeWe must nurture the gift of a questionIn this sacred placeThe teacher lights the way
We have to ensureThat testing serves educationWe have to ensureThat education does not serve testing
We as a nation nowAre teaching to the testWe as a nation nowAre beating all of the joy out of our classrooms
The book of knowledge is not written in our genesWhat's written in our genes is the journeyWe should be nurturing that gift of a questionWe should help frame that pathway to an answer
The teacher's the guideIt's a student's classroomIt's a student's classroomThey are remarkable explorers
