Welcome back to school!

We hope you all had a fantastic and enjoyable break and are ready for the new term! The Reception staff are

looking forward to enjoying a busy last term together. We can’t believe how quickly this year has

gone!

Literacy

In the first half term, our topic will be traditional tales. Traditional tales are folk tales passed on from one

generation to another. Our Literacy lessons will focus on well known traditional fairy tales. Reading tradi-

tional tales inspires children to be imaginative and creative in their speaking and writing skills. Can you

re-tell your favourite traditional tale to your child?

The books that we will be exploring are:

Literacy

The 2nd half term we will be focusing on animals. We will be reading stories about animals during our

Literacy lessons.

During this time of the year we encourage children to think about the different features they use in their

writing. Teachers have been modelling how to use connectives, adjectives and high frequency words and

have encouraged children to use this independently in their writing.

Numeracy

In Numeracy we will be focusing on the following topics:

Addition, Subtraction, Money, Ordering Numbers and Comparing and Measuring.

During this half term, children will be practising their problem solving and calculating skills. Please can

you provide support to your child. They will continue to use language such as addition and subtraction

to show their understanding when solving simple calculations. They will also be finding the total

number of two groups of objects by counting and recording as a calculation e.g. 5+4=9

How to help your child:

Encourage your child to speak in full sentences.

Encourage your child to practise their handwriting using the letter

formation guide that you can find at the back of your child's homework

book.

Exposing young children to outdoors experiences is extremely beneficial

in EYFS. Please provide opportunities for your child to explore the great outdoors!

Support your child’s literacy and numeracy skills by using the suggested links on our school web-

site.

Children are given a reading book each week to take home, please practise reading the book with

your child daily.

The children have been issued e-books on Bug Club. Please can you read at least two books with your

child per week. Thank you.
