A Note from the Editor
Since I was a limping invalid last week, and had just
about shrugged off the recommendations from just
about every second person I met to go see a Tit Ta
Sensei, I took up my neighbours invitation to visit him
at his clinic. Hes a chiropractor, but not your
traditional type. He uses what I believe Star Trek
conceptually gets its healing scanner concept from.
Basically what he uses is the concept of sound and
electricity. By vibrating or sending a pulse set at thecorrect frequency that promotes healing. By the next
day, I could limp a lot better(er)...and no stupid pain
from a Chinese doc using ginger and a can of sarsi on
my foot.
In any regards, there is no better cure than rest, but the
itch I had on the weekend could only be suppressed by
a getting back on the saddle, so off we went to rekindle
some old memories of Sg Pusu. In a nutshell, itd be a
great jungle ride sans mud. Too much trail damage
from the 4wds running through there. 4 hours of
cleaning up the bike, and the mechs, I think it will takeme another 3 years to need my memory refreshed
again in regards to this trail.
Since its Sg Liang Ride + Camp this weekend, it will be a
few weeks before I do catch you on the trails...
Ed.

See you at Sg Liang this weekend!
Updates!
For you folks who have signed up for a great weekend in the wilderness, please be reminded that we are meeting at 8.00am on Sat at the Petronas station
18km after Genting Sempah tunnel inside the Karak Highway, Kuantan-bound. NOT the one just off the tunnel at Genting Sempah.
Pack smartly! Wear the same set of smelly jersey and shorts out the next day. You can wash them in the river and hang to dry. Find partners to share heavy
tuff like stove and tent. And carpool among yourselves please. Limited parking at the managers office inside Naza Plantation. Alternative is to park
amongst the oil palm trees. And please keep all valuables out of sight in your vehicle. Safety not guaranteed as there will be foreign workers living in the
quarters nearby.
Please be punctual. Convoy will leave at 8.30am sharp. For those of you driving saloon cars, do drive slowly on the plantation tracks. You wouldnt want to
crub your underbelly on the uneven sections. The offroad drive is approximately 8km from the trailhead to the estate quarters. Also take note that there
will be heavy trucks loaded with oil palm harvest traversing the plantation. Do sound your horn at blind corners to make your presence known to these
rucks who are not expecting your cars in the plantation.

Impromptu Saturday M + D rides
Spare PartsChoy with his ever willingness to ride, be it morning, noon AND night will be taking calls with his mistress
Rachel from the Yeti Clan by his side, he would certainly ride anything and everything as often as he can. So contact him
for the Saturday Goodness at +60123955255. All levels and ride suggestions are always welcomed.
Change positions correctly Slower moving traffic stays to the left; faster traffic to
the right. Never overtake on the left of the group!
Pass slower moving vehicles on the right; announceyour intention to do so
Announce hazards Most cyclists do not have a full view of the road while
riding in a group
Announce potholes and other hazards so others canavoid them
Call out the hazard and point down to it, either left orright. No need to yell like a maniac tho.
Watch for traffic from the rear The last rider should frequently check for overtaking
cars
Announce "car back" clearly and loudly It is also helpful to announce "car up" on narrow
roads or when riding two abreastWatch out at intersections
Leader should announce slowing or stopping atintersections, if necessary
Cyclists should not follow others throughintersections without first looking for themselves
Each cyclist is responsible for checking cross traffic; ifyou must stop, signal
Leave room for cars On narrow road or during climbs, leave space
between every three or four riders
Motorists will utilize the shorter passing intervals topass the group
Good relations with motorists is the responsibility ofevery cyclist. Remember, we share the roads with
others; its not our Grandfathers road.
Stop off road When stopping for mechanicals or regrouping, always
move clear off the road
Always indicate you are stopping with your right handasking them to overtake you on the right.
Always yield to traffic in the roadway
Rules of Road Riding T + G
Practise Good Peloton Etiquette Everyone in the peloton has to contribute to the
workload. That means taking your fair share of pulls at
the front. Its ok to do shorter pulls, especially if you are
tired. Just do a token pull, indicate and pull off to the
right & back after youve established it is safe to do so.
When you go to the front, always keep a constant &steady speed. Do not accelerate or show how fast you
are. It is not a race, moron!
Typically everyone climbs at their own pace. So after aclimb, recover & regroup before setting off again.
Do not pull too long at the front. Always reserve someenergy
Ride single file It is illegal in some areas to ride more than two abreast.
Avoid doing this.
In our country, the roads are narrow and winding. It isbetter to ride single filed in this case, unless it is safe to
ride a double pace line.

Sungai Pussy(coz thats all he thinks about Ed) by Alvin-a / The week that was M + D
It was a warm Sunday morning when a flurry of sms-es and calls came in. It was nearly a no-go to Sungai Pusu for me and
some others. Things started to change very quickly and before I knew it,
I was at the Gombak Petrol Station stuffing down a Fillet-O-Fish at
7.30am.
A total of 31 riders showed up to re-explore Sg Pusu. It has been too
long since we were here and truth to be told, the memories of this
place was awful. I wasnt the only one with horrid memories of this
place. I remembered hills that were too rutty and muddy that I had half
the mind of just leaving the bike at home and bringing my hiking boots.
Nevermind I thought, if I were to be pushing, theyd be other victims
with me.
Im a little teapot short and stout, here is my handle and here is my
spout... that was the song that was running in my head the whole
morning, thanks to Spare-Parts Choy who starting singing it early in themorning. Doesnt help that it later mutated to remixes by Paul Van Dyk
and possibly a rap version by Mixmaster Flex. At least that got the BPM
up and my legs cranking for the rest of the morning. What got worse
was when the lyrics was somehow replaced by Choys rendition
Bouncing Bak Kut Teh... go figure! Anyway, back to the ride...
To my surprise, most of the roads were already paved up and the tracks
not as rutty. It was actually quite an enjoyable ride but still muddy. We
stopped halfway to have a chat with the rubber tapper there as most of
the trails were not that familiar to us. We were adviced to explore the
trail leading up to the weather station.. ermm.. what trail? Half up to
the eluded weather station, the trails were littered with broken trees. So I guess thats that and we all had to turn back. Next time we go
there, its with the parang for some trail maintenance. Ride ended up at
about 12.00pm with most of the lot wolfing down what calories they
have just lost... Thanks Ronald...

Playing host to Sg Siput mountain bikers byYellowManta / The week that was M + D
Last weekend saw me playing host to a bunchof mountain bikers from Sg Siput who decided to venture
beyond the confines of my hometown to check out the biking
scene in the Klang Valley. In particular they wanted to have a
taste of some technical riding ala Bukit Kiara, something they
have heard so much about and thats not available in their part
of the biking world. Back home, weekly fare is mostly cross-
country on plantation tracks with the occasional road ride
thrown in for variety. But if you ask me, Sg Siput has some of
the best routes for road cycling, which are almost devoid of
traffic and forming nice loops around quaint kampungs and
plantations.
It was my turn to return a favour since they had so gladly
showed me the trails around Sg Siput back during Chinese New
Year. So Saturday evening had me leading 8 very eager beavers
all on hardtails (except for one on my old GT I-drive) up to the
Cross Roads. Of course I led only for a short while before most
of these fit and young riders charged ahead to await my arrival
at the cross junction. I must say their frequent riding around the
hills of Sg Siput has made a number of them pretty strong
climbers. So the tar road up Bukit Kiara was chicken feed to
them.
But aha, I regained leadership when we hit the trails inside 2K!
Strong as these young men are, they are totally unfamiliar with
riding technical trails like those that we enjoy so much at Kiara.
Only a couple of them managed to stay pretty close to my tail
while the rest was dismounting frequently, unsure if they couldride those roots, rocks or drops. The switchbacks too caught all
of them by surprise and in wrong gear, mostly. For once I felt
really like a true ride leader like Ah Rob! But then I was
swarmed by mozzies each time I waited for them to catch up
scratch, scratch, scratch.
Next up was the climb to Twin Peaks. One of the riders decided
he had had enough of technical riding and would ride around
the tar roads and meet us back at the cars. I think he spied a
couple of pretty hikers
Once again our strong climbing Sg Siput friends shot ahead of
me, but with clear instruction to regroup at the Indian tokong. Abrief rest (for me that is) and I led the unknowing bunch up for
the even more challenging trails of Round the Mountain.
Deeper ruts, bigger rocks, steeper drops and slippery
switchbacks. More dismounting.
By the time we emerged at the carpark at the taman close to
7.30pm, I could see that our friends clearly had enjoyed
themselves pretty much riding something so different from
their usual routine. They vow to be back again soon for more of
the technical trails.
Sunday morning found us heading for Kemensah. The ride that
PCC had there 2 weeks ago was still pretty fresh in my mind and
I though that it would be the perfect location to show our Sg
Siput friends some more of the kind of trails that we get to
enjoy down here in the Klang Valley. Especially the bamboo
forest followed by the fantastic singletrack descents. For good
measure I invited Danny Ng and Simon Guinness to join us.
I thought I could remember the trails very well from memory
but I somehow missed that left turn after the bamboo forest.
Fortunately the trail reconnected at the time where we need to
cross a stream next to a hut and we managed to do most of the
trails I rode previously with PCC. Back at the roundabout again,
we took the left turn, had a great descent and pass the part we
had a great view of UK Heights. Here I missed a turn I guess but
Funny thing is after that we ended up emerging at a totally
different land clearing! Which was a good thing as it was a lot
closer to our cars. Total ride distance as measured by my GPS
was only 16km, far short of the 20km that we did with PCC. Still
it was enough to give our now very tired friends a great ride.
Now they are all eager to come down again to ride the
Presidential come August 16, after listening to all my bullshit
about why its a ride no mountain biker should miss! Especiallyfor strong seasoned climbers like them!

Spare Wheels Project
Your friends have heard you rant about the drops and
the endos and have seen the breathtaking scenery
from your flickr, Facebook and not to forget the fridge
door photos.
They finally want to get off their bum and join you for
a ride but running behind you, sitting on your top tube
or dinking them are probably not the best ways for
them to experience it with you. Of course, he/she
could be shit hot, then no one would probably say
anything.
In any regards, PCC has the SPARE WHEELS PROJECT
underway. Currently made up of generous owner's
bikes, they are available for people to borrow and
ride. Some of them have been ridden more than the
villageernever mind. They've been ridden a lot.
Boon Foo has recently offered his assistance to put
together a few hard tails, and together with what we
have now, we should be able to cater for height
ranging from Snow White's pals to the Yang Mings
who want to give this ago.
In all SERIOUSNESS, if you have someone who wants
to join us for a ride, please do not hesitate to drop us
a line and we WILL do our best to get them a bike for
the next suitable ride. Take note that there will be a
$15.00 charge to cover expenses such as ferrying thebike around (only if you are riding with us), washing it
and of course its ongoing maintenance.

A true-blue PCC superstar. Wai Lam has been riding with PCC for many years now. A very nice chap whos ever
willing to share his vast riding experience. This guy can really climb with the best of them. He was born part human
and part mountain goat. If I were to compare him to a rider on the pro tour, itll be the Spaniard Alberto Contador (not tomention the champion design skills for all our ride/event logos).
Heres what we found out about him:
