Compare the picture on page #348 in the text book with the poster on page #353 in textbook. Note 3 similarities AND 3 differences in the two pictures of the same event.

Here is the plan… Students will understand how

propaganda is used to shape image. Students will match rivals from history

and popular culture. Students will begin to comprehend the

origins of the rivalry between the Communists AND the Nationalists in China.

Nationalists Chiang Kai-Shek

and his USA backed government lost control of China.

Chiang and his followers were forced to flee to Taiwan.

Communism

Communists Mao Zedong and his

followers were victorious in the Chinese Civil War that erupted after WWII.

They were heavily influenced by communism in Russia.
