The Arch CafeCafé Assistant Volunteer Role

Role Purpose & about the cafe: To assist in the day to day running of the café and help maintain high standards of customer service. The cafe is a friendly home from home place where regular customers like to chat over a coffee. As we are in the heart of the city, we also attract local business staff who enjoy a bacon butty whilst holding their breakfast meetings in our café. Income from the café is donated back to Age UK Leeds.

Tasks & Responsibilities

To ensure all areas are clean and tidy

Assist in food preparation and ensure there are enough sandwiches, cakes etc. made, especially at busier times, and replenished throughout the day

Liaise with colleagues so that service is efficient & effective

Assist customers with queries in a prompt, professional, courteous and friendly manner, so that customer care standards

Undertake all tasks as trained and directed so that high standards of health and safety and food hygiene are met

Washing up, manually and by machine, keep the wash up and floor area clean throughout the day as required

Ensuring all tables are cleared inside & outside as quickly as possible sweeping up as necessary

Skills & Experience Reliable and punctual Good communication skills Catering experience Team player

When and whereThe Arch café is situated in the heart of Leeds city centre – just to the side of the St John’s centre. It is open Mon-Fri 8.30-3pm and Sat 10-4pm.Our busiest time when volunteers support would be most helpful is across lunchtime although there is plenty to be done outside of these times so any help would be massively appreciated.

AGE UK Leeds commitment:Volunteers will have access to training, informal supervision, briefings and opportunities to participate in social events.Agreed out of pocket expenses such as travel costs will be met by Age UK Leeds.
