CM seems to be in perpetual transition. This, for the most part, is good. October 2012 markeda special switch at our International Councilmeeting in Tororo, Uganda. Every year the ICMleadership from each country gathers to share

and plan for the coming year. This year we hadeight countries participating.

One test of an organizations strength andsustainability is how and when it transitions tonew leadership. ICM Kenya has transitioned itsleadership a number of times but now three othercountries are passing on the baton to new leaders.

This is especially signicant in light of the factthat two of the new leaders are women. Dr. DavidOmalla is turning over the reins of ICM Ugandato Grace Koelewijn, who happens to be his veryqualied daughter. Also, ICM USA has turned overresponsibility for day to day operations of ICM USAto Dr. Sheryl Giesbrecht, Executive Director. Finally,Rev. Deo Mwamba, Director of DR Congo, hasturned over leadership to his long time protg,Dr. Leopold Yambayamba. The Mwambas haveimmigrated to the USA.

Like Africa, ICM is coming of age. We are seeingever greater maturity and focus. Our past gradu-ates are now Bishops and leaders of nationalministries. They are changing their communitiesand starting to change the nations. Take time toread the other articles that reveal ICMs growingmaturity. Felicia is the perfect example of a business personwith a Business as Mission mind set. She has aquadruple bottom line: economic, spiritual, social, andenvironmental. Felicia has accepted the mantle of beinga Marketplace Minister, i.e., someone who has beencalled to reclaim the redeemed marketplace for God.She believes that God has called her into this work andhas blessed her with the talents to do this for His glory.

The Business as Mission movement is spreadingthroughout the world as business people re-evaluatetheir place in the Church at large, their particularGod-given gifts, their role in the community, and most

specically in the marketplace. In the process, livesof individuals and families are being transformed assustainable income enters the home. Communities aretransformed as business owners become leaders in thecommunity and understand their social responsibilities.Churches are being transformed as business ownerswho are marketplace ministers begin to pray for theiremployees, customers, vendors, and competitors andthe Holy Spirit starts reaching those people in newways. Churches are being transformed as businessowners begin to ourish and tithe. The world isbeing transformed as business owners consider their

environmental footprint and the call to stewardship ofGods creation.

I look forwardto joining theICM teamin Januaryand workingspecicallywith pastorsand ministryleaders to be

intentionalin equipping, empowering, and releasingtheir businessmembers as marketplace ministers!

Renita ReedTransition In Community FocusFelicia is a small business owner and Christian, livingand working in the Greater Accra area of Ghana. Shewas raised with the idea of doing business and afterworking for others began to branch out on her own. With 50 Ghana cedis (about $25 USD) in her hand, she started a business, now named Twelve Baskets,

focused on recycled materials. This business is namedfor the story of Jesus feeding the ve thousand and thencollecting twelve baskets of bread and sh after thefeeding. Felicia asks us, Why did Jesus ask his disciples tocollect the leftovers? He must have had a plan to recycleand not waste. So too, I want to recycle and not waste.

Felicia has focused her efforts in several areas:collecting fabric scraps of material from local tailorsto sew into shopping bags and Bible covers; collecting

sawdust from area carpenters and compressing thesawdust into wood briquettes that can be used forcooking re; and collecting used bars of soap from areahotels and melting them down for laundry soap. Felicianot only runs a successful business, she has taken in anumber of young women whom she is training in thiswork. She ministers to them through daily Bible studiesand invests into their lives. Additionally, Felicia mentorstwo other business people in the aspect of productpresentation and quality control.

Greg SnellAfrica Theological Seminary ConferenceEvery school that trains pastors desires to be involvedin the continuing education of those who attend andyet, for many reasons, are not able to do that very well.To that end, Africa Theological Seminary (ATS) is stayinginvolved in the lives of its students and alumni. ATSbelieves God has given us men and women not just toeducate and give degrees but to change their lives onan ongoing basis so they may lead and disciple others.Discipleship is a lifelong process.

Today there are 907 ATS students and graduates and

we at ATS know every one of them. We strive to contacteach one on a monthly basis; they hunger for what ATScan do in their lives.

To provide ongoing lifechange, ATS recentlyheld a student andalumni conferenceentitled TeachingLike Jesus in Kitale.Over 300 attendees,33 percent of our totalstudent body, came tohear Dr. Phil Walkerand Rev Darryl Boweteach. Phil and Darrylworked hard to create

a place where hearts and minds are transformed andmelded into the heart and mind of the One we serve. Itwas invigorating to see the animated discussion groupsformed to reect on the teaching. Next year we areplanning on holding multiple meetings at a half dozencenters throughout Kenya. Please pray with us to seeGod provides for ourneeds.

    Thanks to the Bible

League, 5,000 Bibleswere given away forattendees to share intheir home churches. For every free Bible a75 training booklet hadto be purchased so thatthose receiving them couldbe trained how to read them. That means that thesestudents, 90% of whom struggle to pay their school

fees, paid out $3,750. They value Godsword and want to get Bibles into the handsof their members. Two of our graduateswere awarded motorcycles for use in theirministries. These were also donated to theATS .

We look forward to staying in touch with allATS students and alumni and we need yourhelp. I you would like to be part o prayingor or fnancially supporting the ATS Alumni

Shifting Gears in the USAby Sheryl Giesbrecht, Executive Director, ICM USA

For ten years, Deo Mwamba served ICM DRC Congoon many levels: in the refugee camps of Goma,

the remote pygmy villages near Lake Victoria, reconciliation leadership training for pastors, outreachto Muslims and much more. So when Deo calledme last April to let me know he and his family hadbeen approved for immigration to the USA, you canimagine my feelings of loss to our ministry in the DRCCongo. It seemed the Mwambas work there had justbegun. Our ICM USA ofce staff prayed and now wesee Gods answer.

At our International Council meetings in Uganda two

weeks ago, we discussed how to best shift gears, nowthat Deo and Sarah Mwamba are becoming Americancitizens. Deo Mwamba has been released as ICMCountry Director for the DRC Congo, but his work goes

on through his protg Dr.Yambayamba and a capablestaff. Deos new assignmentis Field Staff missionary. As aformer Muslim cleric, he has

consented to offer his servicesand insights for trainingcountry directors, conductingseminars and speaking in theUSA and Africa or whereverit is needed about how to bestreach the Muslim population. We are excited aboutthe way God is allowing His workers to expand theirinuence.

Deo Mwamba is an example of how our faithful Godprovides for His faithful servants. I you would liketo invite Deo to speak or your church or missions

conerence, please send an email to me at
