Travel Tryouts RecapHigh School Coaches ran most tryouts. 2nd

Year in a row. Sunday slots made this easier / harder.

WBA had more input into the Try-Out Agendas

Pilot Evaluation Program was overall positive with a few decisions that were questioned by the

WBA - SafetyCORI Forms needed ASAPwww.westwoodbasketball.orgForms must be completed prior to 1st practiceAll Head and Assistant coaches will need to complete a CORI

background checkMust have 2 adults at all practicesDo not leave any child unattended following game or practice. Be smart about coaching actions and know your players will

take on the personality of the coach. If you act like an ass, you are setting a really bad example for your players and that lead to safety concerns.

Step in if a fellow coach is losing their cool with a player, parent, referee, or fan

WBA - SafetyMouth Guards

WBA strongly encourages all players to use mouth guards at practices and games. Coaches can mandate this on an individual team basis, but the WBA will not mandate mouth guards in order to play.

Metro West and MIAA also strongly encourage the use of mouth guards by all players.

Prior passwords should still work. Default password is “westwood” for new coaches. If “westwood” does not work, try “metrowest” If neither work, use the “forgot my password” link to get a

password.

Update your roster as soon as possible (players are carried over from last year edits are necessary).

When entering scores there will be prompts to fill out a brief questionnaire to evaluate the officials and the opposing teams spectator behavior.

Officials will have similar forms to assess the behavior of coaches and spectators.

Coaching IdeaTeams with 11 or 12 players could offer each

of their players one game off throughout the season. You would need to make sure only one or two players select the same game, but this could allow families to get away for a weekend and also help you play with a shorter bench. This would be a great task to delegate to a team parent or Assistant Coach.

Upcoming Board MeetingsThursday, November 19th from 7:00 p.m.

Practice Time DraftWe have 50 Practices and 51 Practice SlotsGrades 5, 6, and 7 all have added a 3rd team to

either boys or girls or both8th Grade have been pre-slotted into the DCD

Rand on Thursday nights (Splitting Gym)4th Grade Boys and Girls have been pre-slotted

into the Downey and Hanlon on Friday Night5th Grade Boys have been pre-slotted into the

DCD Rand and Primary on Friday NightEach Grade will draft numbers out of a hat for

draft position

Practice Time Draft8th Grade Picks 1st followed by 7th, 6th, 5th Girls

and then back to 8th through 4th

2nd time around, reverse order will be used for grades 8 through 5

It is possible more gyms will become available if CYO releases gym time – we will not know until mid November

Drafting will be made for the Regular Season (This may be different in November and it is your responsibility to know how this impacts your pick)

Practice Time DraftDCD Rand Gym will be split into 2 slots. It is

strongly recommended that A and B teams of the same grade / gender take the gym and combine portions of practice for skills development on Friday Late Slot.

Martha Jones may have 1st 15 minutes of 6:00 p.m. practice in ½ of the gym while custodian clears the other half following Extended Day clearing out. This should not be a huge impact, but take it into consideration before selecting MJ.

Once the draft is complete, trades can be made if both coaches agree with the trade. John Cummings will not act as a Trade Broker unless there is serious $$ involved..!!

Practice Time DraftLet the games begin..!!
