Things We Consider First

Victim comfort– We confirm there are no known allergies.– Gets pale? We stop and remove moulage.– Victim always has a mirror during application.– We constantly ask if they are alright.

• Any hesitancy? We stop and remove moulage.

– All items needed for moulage are ready before seating victim.

! !!!

Items We Use…

Fiber Therapy

Items We Use

“Schkin”• Cornstarch• Petroleum Jelly• Cocoa

Coagulated “Blood”• Mechanics Grease• Blue and Red Food Coloring

– 2 parts red to 1 part blue

Items We Use

Medium “Blood”Honey, Corn Syrup, or

Red Dish Soap with Blue and Red Food Coloring (2 parts red to 1 part blue)

Items We UseThin “Blood”• Commercial • Liquid Starch with

Water– Red and Blue Food

Coloring

Bruise Powder• Carpenter’s Chalk

– Pink, blue (mixed)

Examples of MoulageLaceration:• Build up schkin and

“bruise” with powder and “road rash.”

• “Cut” schkin (with blunt edge tool).

• Apply coagulated blood.

• Medium blood in and all over injury.

Examples of Moulage

Stomach Impalement:• Build up schkin and

bruise with chalk and “road rash.”

• Place impalement.• Put coagulated blood

around impalement, and medium blood all over injury.

Examples of Moulage

Ruptured bowel:• Use the directions

for an impalement on the stomach.

• Fill a condom with prepared oatmeal.

• Press condom over impalement and squeeze.

“Road Rash”

• Red, black lipstick

• Pond Filter/Sponge

• Slide in angles

• Little bit of schkin with gravel

Lacerations

• Schkin– Petroleum jelly,

cocoa, cornstarch

– Red lipstick– Coagulated

blood– Medium blood– Thin blood on

site

Impalements

• Same as lacerations

• Impale object– Plastic shard– Medium blood

Compound Fractures

• Same as lacerations

• Impale bone– Chicken– Rib

• Cotton

• Red lipstick

• Rubber bands

• Coffee stirrers

Step by Step

• Examples of basic moulage– Road rash– Laceration– Impalement– Blisters

Road Rash

Pond filter/sponge dipped in red lipstick. In most home improvement stores.

Schkin On Road Rash

Schkin Smoothing

Petroleum jelly on fingertips allows ease in smoothing.

Schkin Smoothing

The goal is to make the edges of the schkin blend with the skin.

Laceration in Schkin

Coagulated “blood” applied with a craft stick.

Laceration

Medium and thin “blood” would be applied at the exercise site.

Impalement

We just gently insert the impalement into the schkin.

Impalement Idea

Those flimsy plastic covers for pastries at meetings, etc.? They make excellent fake glass shards!

More Impalement Ideas

Plastic pop bottle top

Bones and “used” shards.

See the thin “blood”?

Orbital

We apply a band aid over the eye area, then schkin.

We only do this simulated injury on people we know and trust.

Orbital

This flimsy plastic tool is great!

And smooth out the edges. The white tool is actually an icing spreaderand available at most craft stores.

We gently create the orbital.

Orbital

We apply coagulated “blood” on the orbital.

Orbital

We would apply the medium and light “bloods” once the victim is placed for the exercise.

Orbital

This is one of our most dramatic examples of moulage!

Examples of Moulage

Burn/Blisters:

• Mix fiber therapy with warm water to consistency of applesauce.

• Place mixture. • Apply “road rash” around

injury.• Fill syringe with petroleum

jelly, squirt “blisters” into base.

• “Bruise” with powder and add a little blood.

• Dust with fireplace ash.

Fiber Therapy With Warm Water

Pour on quickly! It is like applesauce and then sets up!

Smooth Out

Using water, we smooth to about 1/8” thickness.

Let It Dry

When none stays on the fingertips (test), it is ready for the next step.

Making “Blisters”

We place the tip of a syringe filled with petroleum jelly under the fiber therapy and push…

Blisters

… making simulated blisters.

Blisters

It holds up well!

Blisters

Then we tap on medium “blood”…

Blisters

… and a little ash!

Creative Injuries

We use coffee stirrers and rubber bands to simulate veins and tendons.

Base for BulletThrough and Through

A pencil eraser works well with petroleum jelly. Then just fray the exit part of the injury.

Simulation-Conclusion

We conclude our training by assigning an incident to each team. An Evaluator (usually an Instructor) monitors the teams as they create simulations.

Simulation-Conclusion

Teams create scenarios based on their incident and role play.

Simulation-Conclusion

This is their “final” and it is usually a blast!

Hope You Enjoyed!
