WA104Aluminum Cold Vessels

A possible scenario

CAVEAT

• Definition of the experimental layout still under discussion within the ICARUS Collaboration (dimensions and geometry).

• All readout and pipes are assumed to be the one of today. Need to decide on final layout

For the moment (for this discussion) lets assume the layout of the existing ICARUS detector

To be constructed : two cold vessels with these dimensions

To be constructed : two cold vessels with these dimensions

Strategy

Construction in 6 steps:

1) Prepare all technical specs2) Produce extruded Aluminum plates and corner plates of limited

dimension with a press, move the pieces to an assembly firm3) Assemble 8 x 20 m long walls with all the required holes and chamfers4) Transfer the long walls to CERN5) At CERN assemble the 2 cryostats

1 New contract with an engineering firm (we have an offer)2 & 3 can be the same contract (but not necessarily)4 Transport organized by CERN5 to be done in bldg 185, contract welding to a firm, assembly with local

manpower, contract for QA

2 & 3 Scenario :

Extrusion firm produces :

350 basic panels (0.497 width) , include spares

95 ml of corner pieces (~5.5 m), include spares

Extrusion offer today ~400Keuro

Extrusion firm passes the material to a second firm which assemble:

2 x 20m welded floor assemblies + corner piece +chamfers + feet holes4 x 20m welded walls assemblies + corner piece + chamfers 2 x 20m welded roof assemblies + corner piece + chamfers + feedthrough

holes4 x 4m welded end caps + bolted flange

Transport to CERN of the 8 large panels (20m), one/two special transports

1 single contract, 1 single MS + tender : need detailed construction drawings Advantage : all geometrical parameters well defined (dimensions + planarity +

tolerances To be clarified : end doors assembly

Base material: extruded Aluminum profiles ~ 5.2 euro/kg

Corner pieces : 2 x (4 x (4 x 5.5)) ~ 88 ml

@ 33.2 kg/ml -> ~ 2.95 Tons ~ 15K+31K= 46 keuro

Walls pieces : 2 x (4 x (40 )) ~ 320 panels

@ 49.3 kg/m2 ~ -> 168 kg/panel ~ 53.56 Tons = 281 +31 = 312 keuro

3.600 m

3.900 m

Total ~ 400Keuro
