1. VSAT Access Levels Overview
NOTEThis feature is valid only for NMS version 15.1 and higher.
The following VSAT Access Level modes can be set for any VSAT one VSAT at a
time as described in Section 2:
Full Access The VSAT can send and receive traffic to and from the hub.
Persistent Transmission Block The VSAT cannot transmit on the Inbound but
can receive Outbound traffic. This Access level will not change even if the
VSAT is reset.
Transmission Block The VSAT cannot transmit on the Inbound, but can
receive Outbound traffic. This Access level may change if the VSAT is reset.
Maritime Transmission Block When a Maritime VSAT exceeds a specified
distance from shore, it is placed in this mode to prevent it from transmitting.
The Full Access button and the Persistent Transmission Block button
can be used by Tech Support staff and Supervisors to change the Access Level of all
VSATs in the network at the same time as described in Section 3.
Any or all of the VSATs that are displayed in the VSATs View window can be set to
Full Accessor Persistent Transmission Blockmode at the same time using the
method described in Section 4.1.
Any or all of the VSATs that are displayed by the Find VSATs wizard can be set to
Full Accessor Persistent Transmission Blockmode at the same time using the
method described in Section 4.2.
NOTE
If the Access Level of a VSAT is changed by the methods described in
Section 2, that VSATs configuration must be committed and the VSAT mustbe reset for the change to take effect.
If the Access Level of all VSATS is changed by the method described inSection 3or the Access Level of one or more VSATs is changed by themethods described in Section 4, each change is automatically committedand an AAA reply is sent to each VSAT whose Access Level was changed.Therefore, it is not necessary for the operator to commit the changes or resetthe VSATs for the changes to take effect.

2. Configuring the Access Level for a single VSAT
As a practical matter, the procedures described in this section should only be used if
other configuration changes need to be made to the same VSAT or the Access Level
needs to be changed to Transmission Blockor Maritime Transmission Block.
2.1. Changing Access Level via the VSAT Configuration Access Panel
Perform steps 1and 2orsteps 3and 4, and then perform the remaining steps to
configure the Access Level of a particular VSAT.
1. Click the button or select the VSATs Viewoption in the View
menu to display the VSATs View window.

Result: The VSATs View window opens.

2. Display the required VSAT icon by expanding the nodes in the Systemtree or aPartitionbranch. Skip to step 5.
3. Click the button.
Result: The Find VSATs wizard is displayed.

4. Display the required VSAT icon by using the Simple or Advanced search mode
(as described in Section 5.2 Find VSATs Wizardof Part I Getting Startedin the
NMS Operators Manual for Version 15.x). By default, the Find VSATWizard
uses the Simple search mode.

5. Double-click the icon of the desired VSAT orright-click that icon and select
Configuration
Configuration.
Result: The Site Info panel of the VSAT Configuration window is displayed.

6. Click the Accesstab.
Result: The Access panel of the VSAT Configuration window is displayed.

7. In the Access Access Levelfield, click the down-arrow to select the Access
level of the VSAT from the drop-down list:

8. Click the Savebutton .
Result: The selected Access Level is saved and the Save button is grayed-out.
9. Commit the configuration changes and reset the VSAT as described in
Section 2.2Committing VSAT Configuration Changes and Resetting a VSAT.
2.2. Committing VSAT Configuration Changes and Resetting a VSAT
1. If VSAT configuration changes have not been saved, click the Savebuttonin the VSAT Configuration window.
Result: The Saving Configuration progress box is displayed.
2. In the VSAT Configuration window, click the Commitbutton .
Result: The Commit confirmation box is displayed.

3. Click Yes, to commit the configuration changes and reset the VSAT orclick No,
to commit the configuration changes without resetting the VSAT.
When the VSAT Commitcommand is issued, the VSAT parameters file is
rebuilt. For the VSAT to start using the new parameters file, it must be restarted.
Result: The VSAT status is changed to Committed.

4. If you selected Yesin step 3, skip steps 5and 6because the VSAT was reset with
the Commitcommand.
5. To reset a single VSAT, right-click the VSAT icon in theVSATs Viewwindow
and select Commands

7. Verify that the VSAT is reset, powers on successfully, and enters the Backbone
Upstate. You can view the VSAT reset command status in the Events window.
Click the Events button to open the NMS Events window or
Right-click the VSAT and select Eventsto open the VSAT Events window.

3. Configuring the Access Level for all VSATs in the Network
Users whose User Authorization level is Tech Supportor Supervisorcan use this
procedure to set the Access Level of all VSATs in the network to either Full Access
or Persistent Transmission Block.
1. Click the button orselect the VSATs Viewoption in the Viewmenu
(Figure 1) to display the VSATs View window. Then, perform step 2orstep 3.
Result: The VSATs View window opens.

2. To set all VSATs in the network to Full Access, click the button and go tostep 4.
Result: The Full Access confirmation box is displayed.

3. To set all VSATs to Persistent Transmission Block, click the button.
Result: The Persistent Transmission Block confirmation box is displayed.

4. Configuring the Access Level for a Selected Group of VSATs
You can use the Set Rsp to Full Accessor Set Rsp to Persistent Transmission
Blockcommand to set the Access Level for VSATs that you have highlighted in the
VSATs View window. Use this method when the VSATs you want to change can be
displayed in the VSATs View window. This method is described in Section 4.1
Using the VSATs View Window.
You can use the actSetRspFullAor actSetRspPerTxBcommand to set the Access
Level for VSATs that you have highlighted in the bottom pane of the Find VSAT
wizard. Use this method when the VSATs you want to change can be displayed as
the result of a Simple or Advanced query in the Find VSATwizard. This method is
described in Section 4.2Using the Find VSAT Wizard.
4.1. Using the VSATs View Window
1. Click the button or select the VSATs Viewoption in the View
menu (see Figure 1) to display the VSATs View window.

2. Display the icons of the VSATs to be changed by expanding the nodes in the
Systemtree or a Partitionbranch.
3. Press the Ctrlkey and click the row of each VSAT whose Access Level should
be set.
Result: The clicked rows are highlighted.

4. Right-click any one of the highlighted rows. In the pop-up menus, select
Commands
