As a volunteer you are more than just a source oflabor, you are a part of our family and we wantyour experience to be a positive one. This handoutdetails some of the most important informationrelating to your involvement with CommunityPlayers. In it you will find:

We realize your time is valuable and pledge tomake productive use of your time when at thetheatre. At the same time we ask that you treatany commitments you make to volunteer with usas if this was a paid commitment: arriving on time,putting fourth your best effort, and following allpolicies and procedures of the organization.

If at any time during your involvement you have aproblem please bring it to our attention. We wouldrather deal with a small issue when it comes up,than have a major catastrophe on our handsseveral weeks later.

A quick guide toVolunteering at

Community Players

When you participate in a Community Playersvolunteer activity you earn reward points. You willreceive a card to keep track of your points (so don'tlose it). Earn 10 points and you receive a FREEadmission to any Community Players event within1 year of filling the card.

Here's a breakdown of how to earn points:Actors/Stage Managers/Musicians - Receivea full card!Board Ops/Run Crew - 1 point for eachperformance they workHouse Managers - 2 pointsUshers - 1 pointGeneral crew calls/work (set building, lighthang, helping with a mailing, etc) - 1 point forevery hour worked.

Verifying your points: When you completeyour work for the day, have your supervisor (crewhead, staff, or Board member) initial your card.When you have all 10 slots filled have the personwho filled in the last slot sign and date the card.

Using the card: A full card is good for one freeadmission to any Community Players production(excluding fundraisers or non-CP produced shows)within one year after the date on the card. Mustpresent card to Box Office when picking up ticket.Cards and their benefits are non-transferable.

1. The right to be treated as a co-worker, not justas "free help" and not as a "prima donna."

2. The right to a suitable assignment, withconsideration for personal preference,temperament, life experience, education andemployment/life background.

3. The right to know as much about theorganization and the facility as possible, itspolicies, its people, its programs, etc.

4. The right to training for the job, thoughtfullyplanned and effectively presented training.

5. The right to sound guidance and direction, bysomeone who is experienced, well informed,patient and thoughtful - and who has time toinvest in guidance.

6. The right to continuing education on the job, asa follow-up to the initial training, informationabout new developments and training forgreater responsibility.

7. The right to a place to work, an orderly,designed place, conducive to work and worthyof the job to be done.

8. The right to promotion and variety ofexperience, through advancement toassignments of more responsibility; throughtransfer from one activity to another; throughspecial project assignments.

9. The right to be heard, to have a part inplanning; to feel free to make suggestions; tohave respect shown for an honest opinion.

10. The right to recognition, in the form ofpromotion, and awards (or some tangibleevidence) through day to day expressions ofappreciation, and by treatment as a bona fideand valuable co-worker.

Bill of Rights• Treat all Community Players volunteers and staff

with respect.• The use of illegal drugs or abuse of substances

will not be tolerated while working on theatreprojects.

• The use of alcohol is prohibited immediatelyprior to or during rehearsals and performances.

• Smoking is not permitted in the CommunityPlayers building.

• All rehearsals are "closed," meaning no one butthe cast and crew of that show are permitted inthe building during rehearsals.

• Only authorized members of the cast and creware allowed backstage during or following aperformance.

• Food and beverage are permitted throughout thefacility, however, we ask volunteers to pleaseclean up after themselves.

• Community Players does not condone norencourage underage consumption of alcohol.The organization shall make every effort toprevent such behavior.

• Respect the authority of directors, designers,crewheads and supervisors and follow theorganization’s “chain of command” when dealingwith concerns.

General rules/conduct

If a volunteer feels that they have been treatedunfairly, discriminated against or mistreated by amember of the staff, the Board of Directors, oranother volunteer, they are encouraged to takesteps immediately to resolve the situation.

Volunteers should approach one or all of thefollowing individuals, the Managing ArtisticDirector, the President of the Board of Directors,the Volunteer Relations Liaison or the designatedproduction "Adopted Parent" board member, andexpress their concerns.

At that time steps may be taken to rectify thesituation. If this does not succeed in improving oraddressing the situation a formal grievance may befiled with the full Community Players Board ofDirectors. Upon receiving the formal grievance the Board ofDirectors will take what actions it deems necessaryto address the concerns. At the conclusion of thisthe Board will send a formal writtenacknowledgement of the grievance and what, ifany, action was taken as a result to the

Community Players has the right to end itsrelationship with any volunteer if it is determinedthat the individual has willfully not met theexpectations of their volunteer job(s), stolen fromthe organization or other volunteers/employees,creates an atmosphere in which other volunteersfeel uncomfortable or disrespected or violates anyof the policies of Community Players.

Ending arelationshipCommunity Players believes that all volunteers and

employees of the organization should be affordedthe opportunity to work in an environment free ofsexual harassment. The organization takes cases ofsuch misconduct seriously and will take whateveractions are necessary to create a positive workingenvironment for all staff and volunteers includingimplementing disciplinary action up to andincluding ending our relationship with anyonefound to violate this policy.Our complete policy on the subject can be foundonline at tinyurl.com/CPpolicies
