Volunteer Agency Guide
The purpose of CCRI’s Volunteer Agency Guide is to provide
students with information and access to over 100 nonprofit
agencies throughout Rhode Island where they can do volunteer
work. Students can volunteer through their course work for
academic credit or just as a way of giving back to the
community. We do not guarantee placement, but we do offer
our support. Some agencies require mandatory training prior to
serving. Community Service is a great way of staying involved
in the community and it looks good on your resume or
transcript.

improved the attendance of students who were considered chronically absent
(meaning they missed 10% or more of the school days) to perfect or near perfect
attendance. The Walking School Bus currently serves the Mary E. Fogarty and the
Robert L. Bailey IV elementary schools located in Providence, Rhode Island. Both

BECOME A MENTOR… WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU!
By spending just one hour with your mentee each week, you’ll have an amazing sense of accomplishment
as you give back to your community and see the positive impact you can have on a child who needs your
guidance. Being a mentor is about sharing the best parts of your character with your mentee. As in any
relationship with that level of trust and sharing, you are almost certain to develop a long lasting
friendship. In the end, you will find you get as much out of that friendship as your mentee.
HOW YOU BECOME A MENTOR
ONE HOUR each week, that’s all it takes!
1. Fill out an application, outlining your interests and skills, and whether you have a preference for
working with an elementary, middle school, or high school students. Also include your top 3 cities where
you would like to mentor and whether you are looking for school-based mentoring or agency,/out of
school time mentoring.
2. Submit to a background check, and attend a two-hour orientation and training workshop where you’ll
meet other new mentors and receive a manual with helpful tips & activities you could share with your
mentee.
3. You will then receive information about your prospective mentee, and with your approval, an
introductory meeting will be scheduled. Other ways to volunteer include, helping with special events or
volunteering at our office answering phones or completing special projects! For more information or to
inquire, please email us at inquiry@mentorri.org
