Challenges of the Visit
VISIT AT MBAJJA ORPHANAGE
On 21st March, 2010 a team
of Humanitarian Care Uganda
Directors and staff visited the
Orphans and other VulnerableChildren under the care of
Mbajja Orphanage Centre.
This centre is situated less
than two (2) kilometres from
Kampala City Centre, in
Najjanankumbi Parish, Lub-aga Division to be specific. It
was established by Mrs. Robi-
nah Kiwanuka Nteyafa,
Asiimwe Royce, Kolugendo
Anna, Willison Mutebi andMr. Kiwanuka Nteyafa and
well-wishers to carry on ac-tivities aimed at caring for the
general welfare of orphans
and networking with otherNGOs/CBOs who have the
same activities inside and
outside Uganda.
The main objective
of this visit was to
have an on- ground
assessment of theeducation, social,
economic and health
challenges of Mbajja
Orphanage Centre,
its structure, its
composition interms of OVC, its
ability to maintain
OVC and identify the most
pressing needs of this orphan-
age with an aim of developing
strategies to address them.
The following needs were
identified:-
Lack of adequate housing
facilities for the OVC
Inadequate food for OVC
A number of challenges were
identified on this visit which
inhibits the provision of ser-
vices to the OVCs and these
include;
High and urgent need formaterial support. The
increasing number of
OVC
The inadequate capacity
of the initiators of the
orphanage to mobilize
resources for the effec-tive implementation ofthe Orphanage objec-
tives.

(see photos)The purpose of the gifts was to im-prove the lives of OVC through im-proved hygiene, provision of nutri-tional supplements and social sup-port. Of all gifts, the children en-
joyed fruits most.
1. Tour of the Orphanage
A guided tour of the orphanage wasconducted by the administrators ofMbajja Orphanage Centre in orderfor the directors/staff of Humanitar-ian care Uganda to have a clear pic-
ture of the conditions of the orphan-age.
2. Introduction
The introduction entailed the de-tailed introduction of the Directors ofthe Orphanage followed by the intro-duction of the Directors/staff of Hu-manitarian Care Uganda in a struc-ture of two class rooms customizedto act as a main hall.
3. Entertainments
The Orphans and other vulnerable
children entertainedthe guests with
Christian music andfolklore music filledwith messages high-lighting the plight ofOVC.
4. Speeches
The opening speechwas made by the
chairperson of the Board of Directorsof Mbajja orphanage Centre Mrs.Robinah Kiwanuka Nteyafa throughwhich she introduced the school stafftoo. This was later followed byspeeches from the Directors of HCU.
5. Presentation of Gifts
Gifts were distributed among thechildren and other items handed tothe administrators. The Directorsand staff of HCU, Mbajja Orphanage
Centre, orphans and vulnerable chil-dren were actively involved in thedistribution of gifts.
