Cong Govt in Manipur hampering State’s development: Dr Jitendra

IMPHAL (MANIPUR), Feb23: Union Minister of State(Independent Charge) forDevelopment of North EasternRegion (DoNER), MoS PMO,Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy andSpace, Dr Jitendra Singh has heldthe Congres Government inManipur, headed by Ibobi Singh,responsible for hampering theState's development.

Addressing a series of elec-tion meetings at Kumbi andNingthoukhong near here, DrJitendra Singh said, people ofManipur have suffered continu-ous stagnation, exploitation andcorruption for nearly a decade-and-a-half. But, in the last two-and-a-half years, he said, after theModi Government took over atthe Centre, people of the Statehave begun to realize how theyare being constantly deprived ofthe benefits of good governanceand healthy development.

Accusing the Ibobi SinghGovernment of stalling major ini-tiatives from the Centre in the lasttwo-and-a-half years, Dr JitendraSingh said that, soon after the for-mation of the Government, PrimeMinister Narendra Modi hadannounced the setting up of aSports University in Manipur, sothat the natural talent of the youthof the State for athletics andsports could be groomed in amore institutionalized manner.However, he alleged, in spite oftwo years of regular and rigorousfollow up, the State Governmentdid not provide land for acquisi-tion to the Union Governmentsimply because it did not want theyouth of the State to get the bene-fit of the Modi reforms.

Dr Jitendra Singh promisedthat when BJP comes to power inthe State, it will immediately takeup the issue on priority andpromptly hand over requisite landto the Union Ministry of Sportsfor setting up a Sports University.

This would be, he said, an appro-priate tribute to the land whichhas produced icons like MaryKom and Sunita Devi.

Highlighting the special impe-tus given to the growth of devel-opmental activities by theMinistry of Development ofNorth-Eastern Region (DoNER)

during the last two years, DrJitendra Singh cited figures tostate that while the Non-LapsableCentral Pool of Resources(NLCPR) funding was only aboutRs. 45 crore in the year 2012-13before the Modi Governmentcame in, in 2014-15, soon afterthe formation of the Governmentunder Prime Minister Modi, thesame fund was instantly raised toRs. 115 crore. Similarly, he said,

North Eastern Council (NEC)funding for the State of Manipurfor the year 2013-14, before theModi Government came in, wasRs. 85 crore, while in the year2015-16, it went up to Rs. 154crore.

Among the new initiativeslaunched by the Modi

Government for North-East, DrJitendra Singh mentioned therecent launch of work onWaterways and disclosed that Rs.7.8 crore has been earmarked for"Inland Water Transport" alongLoktak Lake in Manipur. He alsoreferred to the fast ongoing workon the extension of the ImphalAirport and Rs. 9,047 crore allo-cated for 111 kms Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal rail track.

committed to the cause of servicethem to the best of its ability.

While interacting with a del-egation of senior Congress leadersfrom Beerwah Budgam, whichwas led by District president ZahidHussain Jan, Mir urged the cadresto gear up for the challenges.

The delegation apprised thePCC chief of organizational activ-ities in Beerwa Assembly segmentand vowed to fight against anti-people policies of the PDP- BJP,which is hell bent upon to weakenthe Congress Party in order to gainmileage. It maintained that cadreis capable enough to face the chal-lenges.

Speaking on the occasion Mirtold the delegation that they shouldfeel strong and continue to workwith great vigor for the develop-ment and well being of the people,for the fact that Congress is aninstrument of service to the peoplewith a history of 130 years in serv-ice of the people. He said Congressis the only unifying force in the

country and will continue toremain as a bridge between com-munities of every religion orregion and is committed to thecause of uniting people in thecountry as well as in the State.

He told the leaders to remainvigilant and defeat the divisive pol-itics being played by PDP- BJP forthe sake power. He said both PDP-BJP are making serious efforts toweaken and divide the secularforces especially Congress in theState.

Chander Prakash Ganga,Minister for Industries andCommerce, Government of J&K,was the chief guest for the occa-sion while Prof DeshbandhuGupta, Dean Academic Affairs,JU, presided over the Roundtablediscussion.

He also emphasised thatGovernment is concerned aboutthe promotion and execution ofthe 'Make in India' initiative ofPrime Minister Narendra Modi.

The discussion revolved

around identifying the connectbetween Make in India and Makein J&K wherein the major initia-tives designed to facilitate invest-ment, foster innovation, skill

development, protection of intel-lectual property rights and manu-facturing infrastructure weredeliberated upon. TheRoundtable discussion stressedupon reviving the ailing manu-facturing sector, through single-window clearances, minimal pro-cedures and cutting out of anyred-tapism which shall provideimpetus for employment andgrowth.

The various initiatives takenat State level to strengthen 'Makein India' campaign includingonline processing of businessproposals, self certification,establishment of green corridor atLakhanpur, delegation of powersand time bound clearances fromother departments, includingpower development departmentand State Pollution ControlBoard, were also discussed.

The speakers urged upon theparticipating students to look forpossible, innovative solutions totread the path of growth and eco-nomic prosperity for the State ofJammu & Kashmir, thereby

upholding the notion of not justmaking in India at large but inJ&K as well.

On the occasion, thePlacement Brochure for the

MBA (International Business)Programme (Session 2016-17)and the Academic Brochure ofICccR & HRM, University ofJammu (Session 2017-18) werealso released by ChanderPrakash Ganga alongwith otherdignitaries.

The Programme was attend-ed by students, faculty membersand research scholars from vari-ous departments of theUniversity. Professor DipankerSengupta. Safety Appellate Tribunal hasbecome functional at Jammu withformer District and SessionsJudge Maharaj Krishan Hanjuraassuming charge of PresidingOfficer.

This is in pursuance of SRO-371 issued vide Notification datedNovember 18, 2016 of Health andMedical Education Department.

Hanjura reviewed the arrange-ments being made to ensuresmooth functioning of theTribunal, which will hear all theappeals against the orders ofAdjudicating Officers.

Earlier, Hanjura was appoint-ed Member (J) of NationalCompany Law Tribunal but hetendered his resignation few daysback to take up assignment inJammu.
